Abstract
Cultural diversity is the hallmark that precipitates the sporadic spread of core values, norms, parlance and setting a pace for unambiguous precision uniting the Muslims from different walks of life, thereby, quenching the raids of. primordial disunity and intolerance of the Jahiliyyah era. Considering the canon of cultural permissibility of the Shari'ah maxim and coalescence of the customs prevalent in Nigeria, this paper attempts to unravel the pros and cons of the former and the latter in the shade of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Historical and analytical research methods were adopted to sieve the wheat from the chaff. The finding reveals that there is a dire need for Muslims in Nigeria to adhere to the cultural modifications portrayed by the Shari'ah, from the gamut of law of personal statute to the primitive credos, so as to consolidate the pristine precepts of Islam and proffer remedies to the multifarious socio-religious and cultural logjams domiciled among the Muslims, especially in the Nigerian society.
