dc.description.abstractThe absence of selfless and compassionate leadership contributes to the problems hindering the growth and development of Nigeria as a nation. The challenges are identified in the church, academia, business industry, civil service and most pronounced among the political class. Jesus Christ developed a leadership model which has proven efficacious for the stable growth of Christianity and this reflected in the life of the Apostles. Since Nigeria’s amalgamation in 1914, the nation has been struggling to build a united state out of its numerous nationalities, largely due to lack of effective leadership. Leadership in Jesus’ teaching is a relational means of ensuring the wellbeing of mankind. He taught that the greatest among his disciples should be their servant (Matt9:33-37), (Luke9:46-48), (John13:2-13). This is the origin of the concept of Servant-Leader which Christ exemplified i.e. leading by example, with a spirit of humility, selfless service, compassion and the fear of God. Nigerian leaders must re-orientate themselves to have a follower-focused relational model. This study recommends the servant leadership model as seen in Jesus teaching and lifestyle for political leaders in Nigeria so that the masses will enjoy full benefit of the nation’s resources.en_US
