dc.description.abstractABSTRACT Malnutrition is a significant problem all over the world, especially among children. It is harmful to children because it affects brain development and other growth. Children who suffer from malnutrition may have lifelong problems. The study examined the influence of school feeding programme on academics performance of primary school pupils in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State. Correlational research design was employed for this study. The population of the study comprised of nine thousand eight hundred and fifty three students and the target population made up of five thousand five hundred and four students. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used for the study. A researcher structured questionnaire that had been validated by the three experts was used to collect data from the respondents. Test-retest method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used and result of .74r was obtained. Inferential statistics of pearson product moment correlation was used to test the formulated null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study revealed that provision of school feeding programme had significant relationship on academics performance of primary school pupils calculated (r ) value of (0,211) with significant probability value of 0.000 at 0.05 level of significant; provision of school feeding programme had significant relationship on attendance of primary school pupils calculated (r ) value of (0,220) with significant probability of 0.000 at 0.05 level of significant. It was concluded that provision of school feeding programme for primary school pupils had significant relationship on academics performance as well as increase their academics attendance rate. Therefore, it was recommended amongst others that government should extend the provision of free school meal for primary school pupils to all public primary schools in the study area so as to improve their academic performance.en_US
