AN EVALUATION OF IMPLEMENTATION OF UPPER BASIC ISLAMIC STUDIES CURRICULUM IN KWARA CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT, NIGERIA

dc.description.abstractThe concern of this research is the problem faced by teachers and students of Islamic Studies at the Upper Basic level in the course of implementing the Islamic Studies curriculum vis -a- vis the suitability of the curriculum to the students it was designed for, the time scheduled for the subject and the adequacy of the three year Upper Basic Islamic Studies curriculum. In this respect, this study evaluates the implementation of Upper Basic Islamic Studies curriculum in Kwara Central Senatorial district. AlI the Islamic Studies teachers numbered 355 in the Upper Basic Schools, in Kwara Central Senatorial district were used as population of this study. A total number of one hundred and thirty five (135) Islamic Studies teachers were sampled: Ilorin West 45, Ilorin East 38, Ilorin South 35, while Asa 17. A proportionate sampling technique was used to select 135 Islamic Studies teachers as a sample. Questionnaire was carefully designed for the purpose of collecting relevant information from the respondents. Two research questions were raised for the study, and the data collected were answered using descriptive statistics of percentage. The findings revealed that the three years stipulated in the curriculum are inadequate for effective accomplishment of the task in the curriculum. Based on this finding, it was recommended that the number of the periods allocated weekly to Islamic Studies should be increased in order to cover the syllabusen_US
