Parental Opinions on the Effects of Street Hawking on the Development of the Youths in Ilorin Metropolis

Abstract
The Study was structured as a survey to investigate what parents in Ilorin Metropolis percieved as causes and consequences of street hawking on development of youthful human resources in Nigeria. From the population of parents across 5 randomly selected streets in the metropolis, a total of 300 parents were sampled using cluster sampling technique. The sampled parents were further stratified on the basis of educational status (educated and illiterate) and family type (polygamous and monogamous). The researcher used questionnaire called Causes and consequences of street hawking to collect the data. The instrument was validated. Percentage was used to answer the research Questions 1 and 2 while t-test statistic was used to test the raised hypothesis. Findings revealed that 78% of respondents blamed street hawking on parental poverty.
