Abstract
Abortion is debatably the most contentious issues in forensic medicine. But while much has been written on the subject matter in Nigeria, particularly on the need for relaxation of the law in that respect, a remarkably little attention has been given to the scope of the law relating thereto. This paper aimed at filling that gap, by examining, in material details and making clear distinctions between that offence and some other related crimes. In the final analysis, far reaching recommendations are made, for instance, the paper recommends inter alia that there should be provisions for improved access to contraception information and services, and sexuality education so as to, at least, reduce the necessity for the procedure in the first place.
