dc.description.abstractThe high rate of drug abuse among youths and adults is a global phenomenon which has served as a long- standing problem, resulting to increased delinquency in our society today. The study assessed the welfare of drug addicted inmates in selected correctional Institutions in Kano State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. There were two research objectives, research questions and hypotheses to guide the study. The population for the study comprised male and female inmates who resided in the identified correctional institutions within Kano State. A total of 75 inmates were considered as the population of the study. A minimum sample size of 60 respondents was used for this study using the purposive sampling technique to select respondents who volunteer to participated in the study. The questionnaire and structured interview were used as the major research instruments for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, t-test and One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that most of the inmates were in poor health condition on admission and the government was able to meet up with the welfare of drug addicted inmates. Among other things the study recommended that counselling centres should be established in every community by the government and private individuals so as to counsel drug addicts and dependent.en_US
