| dc.description.abstract | Since the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria, successive governments have recognized corruption as the major cog in the country's wheel. This reality has resulted in unusual financial Since the consolidation aggrandizement and degeneration of Nigerian youths. Today, moral decadence such as sex scandal, excessive love for materialism, alcoholism, drug abuse, cultism, human trafficking, highway robbery, partying, indecent dressing, sodomy, lesbianism, injustice, tribal sentiments and examination malpractices have been observed to be prominent among Nigerian youths in tertiary institutions. Therefore, this paper discusses the concept of morality in Islām as preserved by the Qur'an and Sunnah, causes of moral decadence and its effects on the society at large. Exegetical and analytical research methods were adopted in the study. The paper has observed that poor child upbringing and bad company in tertiary institutions are the major factors responsible for the youth moral decadence in the present time, thereby preferring solutions to the palpable problems and recommending that the government needs to improve on the project of rehabilitation centres and recruits qualified counsellors at appropriate quarters to curtail the alarming rate of youth indecency in Nigerian tertiary institutions. | |
