Abstract
This paper examines the rights of an unborn child from the legal perspectives of both the Islamic and western ideological perspectives. It contends that since the life of human being begins from conception and as a measure of protection of the unborn child Islam appears to extend more consideration to it than western legal systems. This perception is based on an exploration of the Islamic and western ascription of life at various stages of conception. The paper, thus, concludes that an unborn child enjoy some rights that also transcends its existence even if it eventually becomes stillbirth.
