Abstract

The problem of poor performance in public sector has always attracted the attention of all stakeholders. The bulk of this problem is usually blamed on managerial inefficiency. However, attempts have been made to show that there are several reasons responsible for this poor performance. The objective of this study is therefore to examine the impact of job satisfaction on employees' performance among public health workers in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The study relied mainly on primary data from some selected workers of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), General Hospital Ilorin and Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State through a structured questionnaire. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics (ordinary least square multiple regression). The results show that reward, promotion and supervision all have positive relationship with the employees' performance while only working environment did not. It is therefore concluded that job satisfaction has major impact on employees' performance among the public health workers in Ilorin. The study recommends that the management should always strive to address employees' desires, most especially reward system in order to motivate them and get the best from the employees.
