FACTORS INFLUENCING RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY LIFESTYLE OF HEALTH WORKERS IN UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN TEACHING HOSPITAL KWARA STATE.

Abstract

This study examined the factors influencing recreational activities lifestyles of health workers in university of Ilorin teaching hospital, Kwara state. The research design employed for the study was descriptive survey design. The population for the study comprises all health workers within the study area. A multistage sampling technique involving stratified and sample random procedure were used to select 300 respondents for the study. The instrument for the study was researcher designed and structured questionnaire made up of two sections. The questionnaire was validated by experts in relevant fields and tested for reliability. A reliability co-efficient of 0.68 was obtained. The postulated hypothesis was tested with the use of inferential statistics of chi-square. Three research hypothesis were tested at 0.05 alpha level. All the hypotheses were rejected. The result revealed that use of leisure time have significant influence on the recreational lifestyle of health workers in university of Ilorin teaching hospital (cal x² = 561.101 > table value = 21.03 @ df = 12), religion have a serious influence on the recreational activities lifestyle of health workers in university of Ilorin teaching hospital (cal x² = 413.002 > table value = 21.03 @ df = 12), stress undergone have a serious influence on the recreational activities lifestyle of Health workers in university of Ilorin teaching hospital (cal x² = 611.010 > table value = 21.03 @df = 12). Based on the findings, it was recommended that health workers should be encourage to make use of their leisure time judiciously. Furthermore, it was recommended that management of teaching hospitals should provide adequate facilities for use in orders to encourage active participation in recreational activities lifestyle.
