Christian Association of Nigeria's Distribution of Palliatives During Covid-19 Pandemic in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State

| dc.description.abstract | Prior to the outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), poverty among members was one of the problems that the Church had to contend with. The pandemic (COVID-19) had negative effects on the Church, as it exposed her members to economic hardship. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the Federal Government of Nigeria had to impose lockdown on certain States with high increase in the number of patients. The lockdown further compounded problems of members of congregation, as most of them least prepared for its effects. To this end, it became necessary for the government and corporate bodies to source for materials to cushion the effects of the lockdown on Nigerians. Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ilorin South Local Government Area Branch, also partook in the distribution of palliatives to its members, through the local government areas and neighbourhood branches. However, there seemed to be some misgivings over the distribution of the palliatives. The aim of this paper was to take a critical examination of the distribution of the palliatives by CAN in Ilorin South Local Government Area Kwara State, during the covid-19 pandemic. While its objectives were to: highlight how the palliatives were sourced for; assess how the distributions were coordinated; examine the challenges faced during the distributions and the effects of the palliatives on the beneficiaries and the Church. Methods adopted were descriptive and empirical. The findings of the paper showed that: the palliative materials were donated by good Samaritans and State government; the distributions started from the State Chapter to local government areas and ended at the neighbourhood branches; and; there were some misgivings on mode of distributions of the materials.
