Educationists have long been interested in how parents affect child’s behaviour in school. Research is required to establish the links between specific actions of parents and truancy behaviour among primary school pupils. Hence, this study examined the parenting styles as determinant/predictor of truancy behaviour among primary school pupils in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study population is all primary school pupils in Lagos State, while a sample size of 300subjects were purposively selected from five primary schools in each of the six local education districts in the State. The age of the subjects ranged from 9 to 13 with mean of 10.7. Data was generated with questionnaires by the researchers, and analysed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistical method. Three hypotheses were generated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. All the hypotheses were not accepted. The findings revealed that there was significant relationship between parenting style and truancy behaviour of pupils. The study also revealed that poor and ineffective parenting styles were adopted by parents. The researchers however, suggested that concerted efforts should be made by parents to ensure their children are adequately provided for and morally groomed. The implications of these findings were discussed and recommendations made.en_US
