Abstract
The didactic function of theatrical performances has set dramatic arts, theatre arts and indeed
technical theatre studies on a high pedestal in the academia. The products of these academic
endeavors in the educational institutions of higher learning have served as a major means of
engendering national development in Nigeria. That is, through theatrical performances, societal
ills are exposed and major steps in the direction of correcting such ills are provided. Hence,
ensuring continuation in the teaching of technical theatre in higher education is important.
Recently, current realities due to the Covid-19 global pandemic have posed a rare form of
challenge to the educational sector. It is therefore important to explore emergent, novel barriers
and impediments, and also the prospects of teaching technical theatre practical lessons in this
period. Through a thorough review of extant literature this study presents an overview of teaching
technical theatre, the barriers and impediments in the teaching of technical theatre practical skills
in Nigeria higher institutions. In addition, the prospects of teaching technical theatre in the Covid19 era were presented. The study concludes that while limitation in physical teaching is a major
barrier, virtual teaching of technical theatre practical is equally uniquely beneficial
