Abstract
The life of the Ghanaian is veiled in a rich oral culture characterised by lullabies; folktale laced with songs; children game filled with songs; rites of passages marked by song and dance and dirges which are recited or sung. Music and dance form a key part the ghanaian tradition considering the primacy of the oral tradition. Every tribe and religion in Ghana has a corpus with which they celebrate mourn or demonish. If there is any form of oral literature Ghana has in abundance, it is her songs. With time, music has made headway from being mere performance to being the profession of some people whose services are employed at naming ceremonies or at funerals.
