dc.description.abstractDespite strong opposition to the practice of Islamic banking in Nigeria, Jaiz Bank commenced operation as an interest-free bank in Nigeria in the year 2012 with only three branches and by the end of 2013, it has eleven branches. This paper examined the survival of an Islamic banking system in a difficult terrain using a descriptive research method. The paper identified defaulting in repayment of the loan as one of the challenges faced by the bank and proposed strong government assistance to the bank for its survival considering the role it could play in economically uplifting the countryen_US
