The Holy Qur’ān and Hadīth of the Prophet (S.A.W.) attach so much importance to Date palm and Olive oil. Despite the extraordinary health values of these plants which are not only stated either in the Holy Qur’ān and Hadīth, but also scientifically proved, Nigeria is not yet cultivating them for its local consumption and their employment opportunities for the youth. This paper examines how these plants, through cultivation or importation in Nigeria can minimize unemployment among the graduates. The population for the study was all the unemployed graduates in Kwara State, Nigeria. The sample was made up of 360 unemployed graduates purposively sampled in the state. A questionnaire titled “Awareness of Nigerian Graduates of Health and Employment Values of Dates and Olive oil (ANGHEVDO)” was used to elicit information from the participants which was validated by two experts in the field of Measurement and Evaluation at the University of Ilorin. A test-retest reliability procedure yielded a co-efficient of 0.72. Four research questions were raised and answered using frequency and percentage while the six research hypotheses were tested with the t-test statistic at 0.05 alpha level. The study revealed, among others that majority of the participants were not aware of the health and employment benefits of date palm, and there was no significant difference in the level of awareness of health and employment values of the two plants. It was recommended, among others, that Nigeria should create awareness about the health benefits of the plants and create an enabling environment for the cultivation and exportation of the plants to reduce unemployment.en_US
