Abstract
This study on florin traditional markets examines evolution of
markets in Ilorin and how the markets later attained international
recognition with goods of all kinds. It also discusses the different stages of
administration of the markets as well as incomes that accrued to those who
administered the markets. The study also analyzes some ofthe significance of
the markets, especially the contribution ofthe markets to the attainment ofthe
metropolitan status which the city eventually attained hy the turn of the 19'''
century.
