Abstract

This work investigates the impact of the 2009 banks re-from on the operational performance of banks in Nigeria. Our conceptualization of operational performance is the ability of banks to give loans and advances, mobilize deposit from customers, create credits and finance projects. We divided the entire reform into three major parts from which the variables of the study were generated. We hypothesized that the 2009 reform and the operational performance of banks are independent. Primary data was used through the instrumentality of questionnaire. The multiple regression models were used which contains three independent variables: bank regulation; risk management; bank structure and infrastructures and the dependent variable (operational performance of bank). The t-test statistic was used for the hypothesis testing at 5% significance level. We conclude that the 2009 bank reforms have positive impacts on the operational performance of banks in Nigeria and we recommend that reform exercise should be regularly carried out.
