Abstract

A coup d'etat is the violent overthrow of a government by a small group of military, policy or security forces. It results in the illegal replacement of the existing government personnel. Coups are occurrences that have ravaged the Africa continent from time of its state's independence to the present. Despite the common belief that increase in democratic practices should lead to fewer incidents of coups, this appears not to be the case.
