Abstract
Arabic language has spread to different corner of the world since the emergence of Islam. This happened because of Islam and the holy Qur’an. Arabic and Islam are like two side of a coin, they move together to any part of the world, sometimes the two are used interchangeably. Arabic language is known as the medium of Islam and Arabs are the first race to practice Islam. They are prominent among its scholars and defenders. The Arabic language has influenced different languages of Muslim across the world just like it influenced their thinking and reasoning. The Nigeria languages are not different from other Muslim languages across the world in term of Arabic influence. This influence can be observed in different aspect of language, culture and civilization. This paper focuses on tracing the influence of Arabic language on three Nigerian Languages namely: Hausa, Yoruba and Nupe. The paper was able to reveal different aspects of Arabic language influence on the three languages, such as; indigenous literary arts, documentation of historical events with Arabic alphabets, loan words from Arabic and using Arabic poetry meters to compose poems in the Nigerian local languages.
الملخص
انتشرت اللغة العربية إلى أنحاء العالم بفضل الإسلام وكتابه المجيد، إذ كان الإسلام واللغة العربية كتوأمين يسيران معا إلى أي أرض من أراضي العالم الإسلامي، وقد يطلق لفظ إحداهما ويراد به الآخر. وبناء على هذا أثر الإسلام واللغة العربية في لغات الشعوب المسلمين كما أثرا في عقليتهم وسلوكهم، ولم تشذ لغات الشعوب المسلمين في نيجيريا عن هذا التأثير. فنلاحظ التأثير العربي والإسلامي في لغاتهم وعاداتهم وثقافتهم. تناولت المقالة دراسة تأثير العربية في ثلاث لغات نيجيرية: هوسا ويوربا ونوبي. وقد تخلصت الدراسة إلى إثبات وجوه تأثير العربية في تلك اللغات في الجوانب التالية: القصة الشعبية والأمثال وكتابة الأسرار وكتابة الوثائق التاريخية وقرض الشعر الإسلامي المحلي واقتراض المفردات العربية.
