Abstract
Gender disparity in politics is a global phenomenon. Women participation in politics can be taken as an index of the level of democratic polities in a country since women often constitute half of the population of most countries. In Nigeria, the participation of women in politics has been generally low. This low level representation of women in politics can be attributed to certain socio-cultural and economic factors.
