Abstract
The year 2007 is in many ways epochal in the annals of Nigeria’s political life. Apart from the fact that the political score-card loaded with many firsts, there is a great need to consolidate Nigeria’s democracy. For the first time in Nigeria’s chequered history, there was a 360-degree transition of leadership from one civilian to another within a republic. Also, the nation, for the first time, witnessed the completion of a second and terminal term of any civilian dispensation, having truncated the tenures of the leaders in the first and second republics via coup d’état. This chapter examines the role of the mass media in raising political consciousness and activism of Nigerians toward consolidation of of democratic practices.
