The findings revealed a significant relationship between marital conflict resolution strategies and the level/extent of effectiveness of resolution services, and there is a significant relationship between marital conflict resolution strategies and marital quality. However, the third hypothesis was accepted based on the result that there is no significant relationship between marital conflict resolution strategies and utilization of services of the Ministry. Based on the findings of the study, it recommended that government should employ more qualified and competent staff to enhance effective marital resolution services of the Ministry; the welfare of the staff of the Ministry should be improved in order to enhance effective service provision to service users, and the Ministry should intensify efforts to adopt the new best practices in the service provided to the clients.

Abstract The problem of Vesicovaginal fistula amongst young mothers in the northern part of Nigeria is alarming with its consequences on their physical and social wellbeing. This study examines the effects of social support on wellbeing of vesicovaginal fistula patients in Sokoto, North western, Nigeria. The study adopted a non-experimental descriptive research design with the use of purposive sampling which involved the recruitment of 80 out of 120 VVF patients attending Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto. Correlation and multiple regression were used to test hypotheses one and two respectively. The results indicate that all the study participants were Muslims. Approximately, 97.5% of the respondents are Hausa Fulani by tribe. The first hypothesis reveals that social support significantly correlates with general wellbeing (r = 0.26; P < 5) The second hypothesis shows that marital status, ( beta = - 341 ; t = - 3.303 P < 5 and social support beta =:287: t = 2.778 P<.05) have significant independent prediction on the general wellbeing of VVF patients. We therefore concluded that social support (spousal, family and informational support) are vital for wellbeing of VVF patients. Therefore, intervention for people with VVF should include social support. Also, social workers and other healthcare providers should be involved in counselling the patients.

Ageing does not only change how people look, it changes how they think, behave and the functions of their body system. This study investigates the major challenges that faced the elderly. In addition, the study also investigates the perceived knowledge and attitudes of social workers towards the elderly in Ilorin, Kwara state. Eleven participants who are social workers working in geriatric homes were purposively selected for the study. Data collected was analysed using thematic analysis. The study found stroke, memory loss, ageism, isolation and resource mobilization as the part of the perceived experience of elderly people. The traditional emphasis on family-centered care is fast becoming a relic of the past because of changes in family dynamics. The study recommends that there is need for government at all level to establish geriatric hospitals where the interdisciplinary team including the social workers who have a clear understanding of older people's challenges will be employed. Lastly, the paper concluded that there is little or no effort from governments to support geriatric institutions in Kwara state

(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin, 2019-09) Oyeleke, Johnson T.; Yusuf, M.S; Oguntayo, Rotimi
This study investigated personality traits and social demographics as predictors of divorce proneness among couples seeking divorce in court in Ilorin, Nigeria. It adopted a survey method utilizing expo-facto design. 150 participants were sampled purposively. A structure questionnaire comprises of Marital Instability Index and Big Five Ten-item Personality Traits Inventory was utilized to assess divorce proneness and personality traits respectively. Results showed that female respondents (M=43.07, S.D= 3.01) were not significantly different in the scores of divorce proneness compared to male respondents (M=42.08, S.D =3.01). However, there was no significant difference between male and female on divorce proneness (t(148)=-1.790, p>.05). There was a significant joint influence of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness and neuroticism on divorce proneness [F(5,144)=5.01, 2 R =.148; p<.05] with those variables accounting for 15% of the variance in divorce proneness. Further results showed that extraversion (β=-.405; p<.05), conscientiousness (β=-.582; p<.01); openness (β=-.439; p<.05) and neuroticism (β=.337; p<.05), did significantly predicted divorce proneness. While agreeableness (β=-.174; p>.05) did not significantly predict divorce proneness. The study, thus, recommends that governments should formulate policies or programs that will facilitate awareness on the need for self-understanding of individual personalities as couples; court should seek psychosocial intervention from experts as alternative to divorce to foster a better marital stability in Nigeria
