Item Challenges of Market Traders Contributing to Poor Waste Management as Perceived by Waste Managers in Kwara State(Nigerian Association of Health Educators, 2020) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Kperogi, Ibrahim Ismaila; James, Joke Felicia; Yakubu, Suleiman; Adewale, Olamiposi MadeboThe study examined challenges of market traders contributing to poor waste management as perceived by waste managers in Kwara State. Waste management in market areas is a serious problem as heaps of wastes are found lying on the road side around market areas. The availability of both private and Government owned waste management agencies have not made matters any better in these areas therefore one wonders what could be the cause of this. It is based on this that the study therefore attempted an investigation into the challenges of market traders contributing to poor waste management as perceived by waste managers in Kwara State. The findings revealed that refusal to pay for waste collection, poor packaging of waste and lackadaisical attitude of market traders are behavioural challenges contributing to poor management of waste as perceived by waste managers. It was therefore recommended that market traders should be educated on the importance of the adoption of the proper ways of disposing wastes and waste collection should be subsidize to encourage traders.Item FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO POOR ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION AS PERCEIVED BY HEALTH EDUCATION STUDENTS IN ILORIN SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA(Nigerian Association of Health Educators, 2018) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Yakubu, Suleiman; Adewale, Olamiposi MadeboThe study examined health education students’ perceived factors contributing to poor environmental sanitation in Ilorin South Local Government Area. Sanitation is the provision of facilities and services for the safe disposal of human urine and faeces, it can also be seen as the maintenance of hygienic conditions through services such as garbage collection and wastewater disposal. The state of the environment in some parts of Ilorin is worrisome as a result of poorly disposed garbage. This negative feature is worse in the raining season whereby after rainstorm, garbage, domestic waste and different forms of waste are seen lying on the road. It is based on this that the study therefore attempted an investigation into the factors contributing to poor environmental sanitation as perceived by Health Education Students in Ilorin South Local Government Area. The findings revealed that lack of environmental education, poor attitudes of residents and inconsistency in the provision of waste management services are some of the factors contribution to poor environmental sanitation. It was therefore recommended that health educators should endeavor to educate the residents on the importance of environmental sanitation and the adoption of the proper methods of disposing domestic waste.
