Influence of Academic Processing Speed on Pre-Service Physics Teachers’ Performance in Ilorin, Nigeria
(Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi Sate, Nigeria, 2023) Abdulkadir A. S.; Yahaya W. O.; Shehu A.; Yahaya Q.; Akanbi A. O.
Academic processing speed is an essential cognitive factor that determines to a greater extent the performance of every student success in their academic tasks ranging from classroom lesson, self or group learning, extra-curricular activities and writing of continuous assessment test or examination which were always carried under a specified period of time. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of academic processing speed on performance of pre-service physics teachers. This study adopted descriptive survey type of research of ex-post facto as this method was found appropriate because it help the researchers to collect and collate numeric data and to make use of correlations among existing variables. Students’gender (female and male) occurs at two level. The population for this study comprised all college of education penultimate year students in Kwara State. Penultimate year students that offers physics as a minor course constituted the target population while one hundred and seven (107) students responded to the Google-form -prepared test and inventory via WhatsApp. 24 academic-processing-speed item adapted from Randy Kulman’s academic processing speed inventory (2017) and 5 researchers designed short answered questions was used in the study. Findings from the study show a significant value from the table was 0.12 (p>0.05) which was found to be higher than the alpha level of significant (0.05). The formulated research hypothesis that stated that academic processing speed has no significant influence on students’ performance in physics was retained/not rejected. Recommendations from the study revealed that academic processing speed helps in categorizing students into the different levels. Also the educators at all level need to work on the students’ academic processing speed in other to determine the level at which each student can carried out academic activities in timed situations.

Mediating Role of Internet Self-Efficacy on the Relationship between Social Networking Sites’ Usage and Performance in Physics: Structural Equation Modeling Approach
(Faculty of Education, Tanta University, Egypt, 2023) Yahaya W. O.; Akanbi A. O.; Yahaya Q.
Social networking sites are online applications that were developed for communication and to have access to information. These sites can be accessed via phones, tabs, and other ICT gadgets through an internet connection. The study searched pre-service teachers’ usage of social networking sites and their relationship with their performance in physics with internet self-efficacy as the mediating variable. The study sampled three hundred and five (305) pre-service physics teachers across all teacher-producing colleges and universities in Kwara state, Nigeria using a convenient sampling technique. Adapted and researchers-designed instruments titled “Social Networking Sites Usage Questionnaire” which was divided into four sub-dimensions, “Physics Performance Test” and “Internet Self-Efficacy Scale” were used to elicit data from the respondents. A partial least square structural equation modeling approach was used and the data collected were analyzed via Smart PLS software version 4.0.9.2. The results of the study revealed that all four sub-dimensions of social networking sites’ usage were significantly related to student’s performance in physics. The study also found out that internet self-efficacy mediates the social networking site usage’s sub-dimensions relationship with students’ performance in physics significantly. The study concluded that proper usage of social networking sites aids students’ performance positively.

Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling and Necessary Condition Analysis of the 21st Century Digital Literacy and Awareness of Physics Application of our Everyday life in Kwara State, Nigeria
    (Faculty of Education, Tanta University, Egypt, 2023) Akanbi A. O.; Yahaya W. O.; Mohammed R. E.; Yahaya Q.
The present study search on 21st century digital literacy and its relationship with students’ awareness of the physics application in our everyday use of lens, optics, electricity and energy. The study sampled four hundred and eighty-four (484) education students’ across all teacher-producing colleges and universities in Kwara state, Nigeria using a convenient sampling technique. An adapted and researchers’ designed instruments were used to elicit data from the respondents. A Partial least square structural equation modeling approach was used and the data collected were analyzed via Smart PLS software version 4.0.9.2. The results of the study revealed that all three dimensions of 21st digital literacy were significantly related to students’ awareness of physics applications in our everyday life. The study also found that necessary condition analysis and partial least square p-values result indicated that 21st digital literacy can influence significantly the students’ awareness of physics applications in the use of lens and optics, and electricity and energy.

Views of Tertiary Institution Science Laboratory Technologists on Virtual Laboratory Amidst Covid-19 Outbreak in Nigeria
(Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi Sate, Nigeria, 2023) Yahaya W. O.; Akanbi A. O.; Owodunni B. A.; Shehu A.; Yahaya Q.; Abdulkadir A. S.
Usage and switching from physical to virtual laboratories is fast growing and gaining more momentum and popularity among the teachers, students and technologists as a result of advancement and improvement in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in this 21st century otherwise known as digital age which is also necessitated by the spread of Covid-19. The design for this study was descriptive study. The study sampled thirteen (13) laboratory technologists who were conveniently selected across the federal and state tertiary institutions in Nigeria responded to the Google form questionnaire link shared on their various WhatsApp platform. The instrument used for this study was adapted and tagged “views of Science Laboratory Technologist on Virtual Labs Questionnaire” with three possible Likert scales (Agree, Neutral and Disagree). The face and construct validity of the instrument was determined by ICT experts and analyzed with a validity and reliability indexes of 0.72 & 0.68. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentages and chart diagram) Overall feedback shows that most laboratory scientists’ (75%) concluded that virtual laboratories aid teaching-learning process, especially during the period of Corona Virus pandemic lockdown and to a greater extent, it helps the application of students’ theoretical knowledge into practice, it promotes students self-learning, prepare students to get more familiar with experiments’ and also helps them to handle the equipment correctly before entering physical labs.
