Arabic Communicative Competence in Digital Age: Opportunities and Challenges for Learners in Nigeria.
    (Department of Religious Studies, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria., 2025) Abdur-Rafiu, J.,; Owoyale-Abdulganiy, I.S.; Muhammad Soliu, I,; Sonde, S. A.; Jamiu, A.A.
The emergence of the digital age has significantly transformed the landscape of language acquisition, presenting both opportunities and challenges. This paper explores the opportunities and challenges associated with developing Arabic communicative competence in Nigeria within the context of the digital age. Arabic, with its historical and religious significance in Nigeria, faces both unprecedented advantages and substantial barriers in language acquisition due to the proliferation of digital technology. While digital tools such as mobile applications, e-learning platforms, and virtual exchange programs provide enhanced access to resources, the challenges of socio-economic disparities, limited access to technology, and inadequate digital literacy remain significant obstacles. The paper examines the role of digital technology in advancing linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic competencies, particularly in the Nigerian educational landscape. It also highlights the potential benefits of Arabic proficiency, including improved global communication, economic opportunities, and cultural preservation. Additionally, the study discusses the issues facing Arabic learners in Nigeria, such as outdated teaching methodologies, insufficient teacher training, and socio-political factors. Recommendations are provided to overcome these challenges, including the adoption of communicative language teaching methodologies, enhanced teacher professional development, curriculum reform, and the integration of technology into learning practices. Ultimately, this paper argues that leveraging digital resources can significantly enhance Arabic communicative competence, fostering global integration and contributing to Nigeria's socio-economic development in the digital age.

Influence of Global Trends on Arabic Curriculum in Nigeria
    (Department of Religious Studies, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria., 2025) Owoyale-Abdulganiy, I. S.; Abdur-Rafiu, J.,; Muhammad Soliu, I,; Sonde, S. A.; & Jamiu, A.A.
This study examines the influence of global trends on the Arabic curriculum in Nigeria, exploring how technological advancements, cultural diversity, and the emphasis on global competencies are reshaping Arabic language education. The historical context of Arabic in Nigeria, from its introduction with Islam to its integration into formal education systems, is discussed, highlighting the challenges and opportunities faced by the curriculum. Global trends, including digital transformation, multiculturalism, and competency-based education, are transforming the Arabic curriculum to cater to both local and international demands. While these trends offer significant opportunities for enhanced cultural understanding, economic prospects, and educational reforms, they also pose challenges such as resource constraints, socio-political resistance, and the need for quality instructional materials. The paper recommends several strategies for overcoming these challenges, including teacher training programmes, curriculum adaptations, and increased investment in Arabic education. The integration of global trends in the Arabic curriculum presents a pivotal opportunity to modernise language education in Nigeria, preparing students for a globalised world while preserving the rich cultural and religious heritage associated with Arabic.
