Item Adult literacy programmes: Tools for Rural Women Empowerment in Nigeria.(A Journal of the Department of Adult and Primary Education, University of Ilorin., 2017-11-01) Murtala, A. K.; Sholagberu, A.O.Literacy education has been identified as an important tool for meaningful development. A meaningful development can only take place where men and women are active participants. It appears that Nigerian women have been constrained by lack of literacy to play their role in the development of their communities. To really bring them to the lime-light, their empowerment is important. This paper therefore submits that rural women can be empowered if different adult literacy programmes such as basic literacy, post literacy, civic literacy, functional literacy and family literacy are made available to them. The paper recommends among other things that government at all levels should show more commitment to adult and non-formal education programmes through friendly legislation and proper funding to make adult literacy programmes available to rural women empowerment in Nigeria.Item Beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries perceived causes of poverty and progress of poverty alleviation programme in Ilorin Metropolis.(Published by Institute of Education, University of Ilorin,, 2012-03-04) Sholagberu, A.O.; Kayode, S.T.The study investigates causes of poverty as perceived by the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of poverty alleviation programme in llorin metropolis. The concept of poverty and its causes was discussed extensively. Two research questions were raised and answered. Descriptive survey was used in the study. Three hundred and seventy five (375) beneficiaries and three hundred and eighty (380) non-beneficiaries of the poverty alleviation programme constituted sample for the study. The data generated from the study was subjected to statistical analysis of frequency count and percentage as well as mean score. Any figure above means score of 2.5 was considered acceptable decision while below 2.5 was considered as rejected decision on the causes of poverty. Result of the findings revealed that inadequate access to financial assistance, inadequate access to vocational skills, illiteracy and lack of people's participation in development programme were found to be the causes of poverty in llorin metropolis. It was recommended among other that adult literacy programme should be included in future poverty alleviation programme, and the government should wage anti-corruption crusade on the officials of the programme was well as creation of awareness campaign for the people.Item Empowerment and development strategies for the attainment of MDGs in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.(Published by Nigeria National Council for Adult Education., 2015-10-02) Sholagberu, A.O.; Kayode, S.T.; Alakoso., I.M.This paper is on local empowerment development strategies for the attainment of MDGs in Ilorin West Local Government Area. The aim is to provide a formidable basis needed for adopting meaningful policy measures geared towards the empowerment of communities and development strategies for attaining the MDGs. The paper addressed the following issues among which are empowerment and development, the millennium development goals in perspectives, development strategies in empowering the community for the achievement of the MDGs and the challenges faced with its attainment. The paper concludes with the fact that empowerment of communities are needed to achieve the MDGs. Based on this, recommendations made were intensive awareness campaign for the people of the rural areas in florin West Local Government. the need for collaborative efforts between the government and community based association and extension of MDG programmes to the identified areas by the government.Item Impact of Entrepreneurship Education on Job Creation and Employability of Undergraduate students of Higher Institutions of Learning in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria., 2021-11-07) Ambali T. O.,; Abdullahi, A.K.; Sholagberu, A.O.; Mohammed, R.M.O.This study examined the impact of entrepreneurship education on job creation and employability of undergraduate students of higher institutions of learning in Kwara State, Nigeria. Four objectives were raised and translated to research questions to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and 9,283 was considered as the target populations comprising male and female students. A sample size of 361 respondents was selected. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted to select respondents that will be participate in the study. At the first stage, a cluster sampling technique would be used to sample higher institutions offering Entrepreneurship as a compulsory general course within Kwara State. At the second stage, stratified sampling would be adopted, because the population was group or divided into higher institution of learning: University of Ilorin and Kwara State University. A self-developed questionnaire was used as the research instrument for data collection. The reliability test of the questionnaire was done using test retest technique and a co-efficient 0.87 was obtained. The administration of the instrument was done by the researcher and three field research assistants. The administration of the instrument was carried out by the researchers and three volunteer field research assistants. The data collected was analyzed using mean rating and standard deviation. One of the findings revealed that the provision training that enables students acquire specialized skills, to acquire skills for self-reliance and for manpower training are the factors responsible for implementation of entrepreneurship education and job creation. It is therefore, recommended that entrepreneurship education providers should encourage more participation in vocational training that enables students acquire specialized skills for self-reliance and manpower training.
