Item Availability and utilization of information and communication technology among instructors in Adult and non-formal education centres in Kwara State(The open University of Sri Lanka, 2021-06-01) Ambali, T. T.; Abdullahi, A. K.; Sholagberu, A. O.; Kayode, S. T.This study examined the availability and utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) among instructors in adult and nonformal education centers in Kwara State, Nigeria. Three objectives were raised and translated to research questions to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and 271 was considered as the target populations comprising male and female instructors. A sample size of one hundred and sixty (160) respondents was selected across the State. A multi-stage sampling procedure consisting of cluster sampling, purposive sampling and simple random sampling was adopted. Check list and questionnaire were used as an instrument for data collection for the study. The reliability of instruments was achieved using test-retest technique and a co-efficient 0.82 was obtained. The administration of the instruments was carried out by the researchers and five volunteer field research assistants. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and percentages. One of the findings revealed that the level of utilization of ICT among instructors was low. It is therefore, recommended that there is a need to create awareness among instructors on the level of utilization of ICT to increase the level of consciousness for effective teaching learning process.Item Challenges in sustaining youth empowerment programmes in Nigeria: The way forward(Published by Nigerian National Council For Adult Education., 2018-09-03) Kayode, S. O.Unemployment has become a major problem affecting the lives of Nigerian youths, causing increased militancy, violent crimes, kidnappings, restiveness and socially, delinquent behaviour. Youth unemployment is devastating to both the individual and the society as a whole both psychologically and economically. The paper examine the issues of youth unemployment, consequences and possible solution such as potential intervention measures for effective career guidance, technical and vocational education. Recommendations were made which include that youths should be trained to possess skills which are congruent with real labour market demands, developing a special focus on career guidance, and robust platform for youths to develop their creative potentials. T.Abstract This paper focuses on the knowledge and skills of community agents and village level workers, as part of non-formal education process for ensuring community participation in project identification, selection and formulation for sustainable development at the grass root level. Conceptual clarification was presented sequentially together with skills needed by village level workers and community agents in stimulating community participation. It was further recommended that there is a need for community mobilization on the importance of active participation of all members of the community in any project designed for the development of their community. There is a need as well for wider dissemination of knowledge that will be geared towards a better understanding of community project, its nature, dimension and its feasibility study. Key words: Community participation, Project execution and Non-Formal EducationItem Impact of skills acquisition programmes on women socio-economic empowerment in Kaiama & Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State.(Published by Nigerian National Council For Adult Education., 2017-09-04) Sholagberu, A. O.; Kayode, S. T.Nigeria had embarked on many policies and programmes to enhance socio-economic development and create job opportunities for the citizenry especially among women. One of such programmes is the skill acquisition programme (SAP). This study did, on empirical assessment of the impact of skill acquisition programme on the socio-economic development of women in Ilorin west and Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The study adopted the descriptive survey design of Ex-post facto type. Systematic and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 50 women across adult literacy centers in both local government areas. A well-structured questionnaire was used to gather information from the sampled respondents. Two questions were raised and answered and the Iwo null hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The finding of the study revealed that skill acquisition programme has significant impact of women socio and economic empowerment in Ilorin West and Kaima local government areas of the state. It was therefore recommended that government, donor agencies, non-governmental organization should provide more centres for adult learning and skills acquisition programme, credit facilities to beneficiaries encourage women mainstreaming and put in place proper monitoring and evaluation of such programmes.Item Paulo Freire’s Adult Education Philosophy as an Alternative for Instructional Delivery in University in Nigeria.(Faculty of Education & Extension Services, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria,, 2016-03-11) Murtala, A. O.This paper argues that Nigerian universities' instructional delivery mechanism is faulty and cannot guarantee effective teaching and learning which will result to production of sound, informed, critical and productive graduates. The Nigerian university teachers through their approaches to teaching domesticate, repress and intimidate learners. This process grows and develops narrow consciousness and narrow-minded individuals who cannot champion the course of addressing Nigerian problems and efforts towards national sustainable development. Thus, the need for searching an alternative approach to teaching in order to reposition the system with a view to producing graduates who are skilled to move the country forward. Against this background: the paper calls for exploration of Paulo Freire’s Adult Education Philosophy as an alternative for instructional delivery in universities in Nigeria. To this end, the paper examines the situational analyses of instructional delivery in universities in Nigeria. Also philosophy of Paulo Freire and its implications to teaching and learning in universities in Nigeria were discussed. The paper concludes that the quest for producing university graduates who will be able to confront Nigerian problems and promote sustainable national development will be realized if Nigerian university teachers move away from “banking” education and embrace problem-posing model of education through conscientization where learners and teachers are seen as co-partners in learning. The paper recommends among others that Faculty of Education in Nigerian universities should continue to pressurize their university senates to mandate all academic staff who do not have teaching qualification to undergo postgraduate course in education in order to acquire relevant’ teaching qualification with a view to understanding rudiments of teaching and learning where learners and teachers are co-partners in learning.Item Re-positioning adult education programmes for sustainable livelihood in Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara Nigeria.(Al-Hikman Journal of Educational. T.Educating adult individual in any society is considered as a vital move towards liberating such individual adult. Thus, adult education programmes need to be readdressed to cater for individual adult needs in terms of economic, welfare and social development. Based on this premise, this paper explored the need to re-positioning adult education programmes for sustainable livelihood status of people in Ilorin Metropolis. Survey research design was adopted for the study and sample of 90 adult learners were randomly selected across three adult literacy centers in Ilorin metropolis. The study made use of a structured questionnaire to elicit relevance data from the respondents. Data collected were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between adult education programme and reducing poverty level of adult individual. Also, there was a significant relationship between adult education programme, economic benefits and attitudinal changes of individual adults in the society. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that reliable and available data must be provided for proper planning and implementation of adult education programme. Society must ascribe value and prestige to this system of learning and appreciate it as needed for lifelong Education. Also, relevant and appropriate teaching and learning materials must be provided to adult literacy centres and adult facilitators/instructors must be adequately motivated.Item Relevance and uses of information and communication technology among selected Adult Market Women in Ilorin West and Kaiama LGA, Kwara State.(Journal of Nigerian National Council for Adult Education. T.; Najeem, A.H.This paper evaluated the relevance and uses of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) among market women in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. The objectives were to unravel the extent of ICT literacy among women, to evaluate the relevance of ICT among selected market women, and to examine the extent to which ICT is use by .women to empower themselves through sustainable poverty reduction. A total of 120 market women participated in the study it was revealed from the finding that ICTs offer a wide range of information and knowledge, which are critical components of poverty alleviation strategies, ICT are viewed as near-magic solution to problems which proved useful as it provides information on prices, markets, technology and potential entrepreneurship skills. It was concluded that women entrepreneurs' use of ICT Infrastructure and systems in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State is limited and even the ones in use are not widely explored and channeled for business development. It was recommended among others there is a need to establish women's clubs and the existing ones strengthen in communication skills and ICT just as in the case of a group (Self employed Women Association) in India in where the trained in the production and use of video to generate income, disseminate new skills and to advocate for changes. in policy, thus ICT's will not only empower the gender but sustain poverty alleviation programmes which in time past have failed in Nigeria through provision of new and enhanced opportunities for participation in the process of self-determination, economic, social, educational and cultural advancement and employment beyond the scope of traditional institutions and any form of governance.
