Al-Qudat min abnai daru ul-ulum wa juhuduhum fi mukafahat ai-jaraim muta-alliqah bil-mal fi Nigeria
(Department of Arabic, Federal University of Kashere Gombe State, 2023) Ridwan Ibrahin Olarewajo O.
Giving much worry to the concerned is the heavy blow which is being punched at the economic stability of the Nigerian nation day in day out. While the general categories of crime such as theft or stealing, armed robbery, murder or culpable homicide etc. are still constituting their havoc in strong tones and overtones - same not having abated, the special genre of economic and financial crimes, some of which are often committed by public office holders, is identified with high flying negative impacts on the viability of economy and development of all and sundry in the society. The successive governments at the national level are of course not doing a paid slip to the matter. There has been a plethora of legal and institutional frameworks to checkmate the problem but all seem to offer no useful rescue from the disturbing situation. However, steadfastness and firmness have rather been viewed as what the judicial officers in the nation require to interpret the combating legal provisions in the country to be able to combat the menace of economic and financial crime with all stiffness same requires. Applying doctrinal approach of legal writing to assess the performance rate of the judicial officers among the products of Darul-Ulum Arabic school in Ilorin, Kwara State of Nigeria, it is found that the religious-cum Islamic intellectual training which the school infuses in its students-old and new-have been of tremendous impact on shaping the judges among the school graduands to be firm and upright in fighting economic and financial crimes through the instrumentality of their judicial pronouncements. Some few selected judgements of these eminent Darul-Ulum trained judicial officers shall be reported and analyzed in the writeup with a view to ascertaining the intellectual make-up of the Judges in upholding the high demand of winning anti-graft war. This writer shall thereafter recommend the same path for other judges or would be judges in the country to follow in order to achieve heart gladdening result in this regard.
