Item Influence of HIV/AIDS Knowledge on Sexual Practices of Students’ in College of Education, Ekiadolor Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria(Home Economics Professional Association of Nigeria (HEPAN)., 2017) Salami, L.I.,; Oyegunwa, O. R; Gbadebo, C.TAbstract The study assessed the influence of HIV/AIDS knowledge on sexual practices of students in College of Eduction (COE) Ekiadolor, Edo State. Five Research questions guided the study, and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study consisted of all 2015/2016 NCE 3 students in School of Vocational Education, COE, Ekiadolor, Benin City, Edo State Nigeria numbering four hundred and seven (407). A total of one hundred (68 Females and 32 Males) NCE 3 students constituted the study sample using multi stage sampling technique. The study used Questionnaire titled HIV/AIDS Knowledge and Sexual practices of students Questionnaire (HAKSPSO) as data collection instrument. The instrument had reliability coefficients of 0.66. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Independent t-test. All null hypotheses were tested at 0.05% level of significance. It was concluded that HIV/AIDS knowledge does not significantly influence sexual practices of students in COE, Eliadolor. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that there is need for immediate inclusion of moral instruction and sex education in the school curriculum with emphasis placed on knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexual practices of students.Item Parents Responsibility towards Sexuality Education for Youth: Implication for Viable Economy(Faculty of Education University of Benin. Benin City, Nigeria., 2018) Gbadebo, C.T; Oyegunwa, O. R; Abraham, Moji.O.Abstract The paper examined Parents Responsibilin towards Sexuality Education for youths. Implication for Viable Economy: The population comprised of the adolescents and parents in Lagos State. Nigeria. Three hundred and twenty five (325) students and three hundred and twenty five (325) parents were random selected in two (2) junior secondary schools as samples from Yaba LCDA. Lagos States. A descriptive survey method was adopted using modified likert type questionnaire Six research questions were formulated to guide the study and one hypothesis generated. Data were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviation while two tailed t-test was used to test the stated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Result revealed that, (52%) of the parent support school-based sex education but most of the parents do not discuss sexualty issues with their children or ward due to various reasons like religious restrictions and decency: Most parents 33%) do support teaching youths the use of condom as an alternative to prevent unwanted Pregnancy. 48% of the youths agree they learn about sex from their parents. The result revealed a significant difference between father and mother's in the level of interaction with their teenage children as regards sexualty education. All agreed with the fact that parent non-involvement in sexuality education are among major causes of youths’ early introduction to sex resulting in rape, sexually transmitted diseases.(STDs) and unplanned pregnancies which dramatically causes school dropouts leading to financial waste thereby affecting the economy of family. It was revealed that youths can go into diversified business plans or better still further their education and training in case of unwanted pregnancies to provide for the viable economy and help them and the family. It was recommended that parents need to communicate with their children about sex and develop practices and programs that encourage teens to delay the initiation of sex or other risky sexual behaviors until they are older. It is also recommended that parenting education classes or workshops should be organized for parents.
