Item Assessment of Teacher's Knowledge of Computer Software for Teaching Islamic Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Ar-Raniry State Islamic University Banda Aceh, Indonesia., 2024) Owoyale,-Abdulganiy; Abdur-Rafiu, J.; Abdulrazaq, A.The study examined availability and accessibility of computer software in teaching of Arabic in Secondary Schools in Kwara State. To examine the accessibility of computer software for teaching Islamic Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Kwara state. Two research questions and two research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The target population was 360 Islamic Studies Teachers in 50 Senior Secondary Schools. The sample was 186 Islamic studies Teachers in Senior Secondary schools purposively selected for the study. The researcher’s self-designed instrument titled “Accessibility and Utilisation of the Computer Software Questionnaire (AUCSQ) was used to collect data from the respondents. The reliability coefficient of the AUCSQ was 0.86. Frequency and Percentage were used to present the demographic information of the respondents and to answer the research questions while the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to test hypotheses. The study revealed a significant correlation between the availability of computer software and the teaching of Islamic Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Kwara State. The study found a significant negative correlation between the accessibility of computer software and the teaching of Islamic Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Kwara State. The study found that the lack of access to computer software negatively impacts the teaching of Islamic studies in secondary schools in Kwara State. It recommended that school management should provide adequate computer software for teachers and that Islamic studies teachers should acquire computer skills for easy access to the software.Item Correlation between Home Variables and Secondary School Students’ Academic Performance in Islamic Studies in Oyo North Senatorial District, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, Sokoto State University, Sokoto, Nigeria., 2024) Owoyale,-Abdulganiy; Abdur-Rafiu, J.; Sanusi,Home factors have been identified as one of the critical determinants of students' academic performance. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between home variables and Islamic Studies academic performance among senior secondary school students. The target population comprised all 31, 706 SSS 2 students in three Local Government Areas within Oyo North Senatorial District land, with a purposive sample size of 240 students that offered Islamic Studies across the various selected schools. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, yielding a reliability coefficient of 0.87 after validation and testing. Performance in Islamic studies was determined using the Islamic Studies Performance Test (ISPT), while demographic information and research questions were answered using frequency and percentage analysis. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) at a significance level of 0.05 tested research hypotheses. The findings showed that socio-economic status had a strong positive relationship with academic achievement in Islamic Studies among senior secondary school students in Oyo North Senatorial District (r.cal.=149, p.<0.05). Additionally, family type also had significant positive effects on their academic performances (r.cal.=114, p.<0.05). Based on these results, it is concluded that high parental socio-economic status has considerable influence over senior secondary school student's performance in Islamic studies within Oyo North Senatorial District; also, intact families positively affect them too. Therefore, it is recommended that parents should strive to improve their socio-economic status by attaining higher education levels or occupying high social positions while improving financial stability; furthermore, living together as an intact family unit could enhance their child's educational outcomes significantly.Item Relevance of Religious Education in Curbing Cultism in Nigerian Secondary Schools(Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Port Harcourt, 2019) Abdur-Rafiu, J.; Ismail, T. D.; Owoyale,-AbdulganiyThis study examined the relevance of religious education in curbing cultism among secondary school students in Nigeria. In doing so, the researchers relied on the data gathered via electronic, print and secondary sources. Concepts of religion, religious studies and cultism were enumerated. It was found that prevalence of cultism is no longer restricted to Nigerian higher institution of learning but rather, it has spread to the secondary schools in Nigeria. The findings of this study also revealed that religious education has the potentials of curbing the bane of cultism menacing our citadels of learning. In line with the findings of the study, it was recommended that the governments at all levels are charged to be firm in fighting secret cultism with justice and Equity. Religious education should be made compulsory for all secondary school students.Item Teachers’ Preparedness as a Correlate of Academic Performance in Religion and National Values among Upper Basic Students in North-central, Nigeria(Published by the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Lagos State Univesrsity, Nigeria, 2024) Owoyale,-Abdulganiy; Abdur-Rafiu, J.; Usman, I.A.Teachers’ preparedness is a powerful tool for enhancing students’ academic performance. Teacher’s preparation of lesson note, lesson plan, resources and a host of others contribute enormously to the students’ performance at all levels of education. This study therefore, investigated teachers’ preparedness and academic performance of upper basic students in Religion and National Value (RNV) in North Central Geo-Political Zone. Descriptive survey design was used in this study. The population for this study was all upper basic teachers in North Central, Nigeria. It was found in the study that teachers’ preparedness significantly relates to academic performance of upper basic students in Religion and National Value in North Central, Nigeria. Similarly, the findings of the study revealed that there is positive relationship between teachers’ preparation of lesson plan, preparation of note of lesson, utilization of teaching materials and teaching methods and upper basic students’ academic performance in North Central Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria. It is therefore recommended in the study that government should encourage training and re-training of teachers through seminars, workshop and conferences.
