Item Accreditation of Business Education in Kwara State Tertiary Institutions: Challenges and Way Forward.(ABSU Journal of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education Abia State University, 2020) Oluwalola, Felicia Kikelomo; Atolagbe, A. A.; Nwabufo, N. B.Abstract The study examined the challenges faced by tertiary institutions in Kwara State in getting business education programme accredited by the National Universities Commission. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. Four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The tertiary institutions offering business education programme courses at the degree level were purposively selected for the study. The study sample included all Heads of Departments and lecturers in the Departments. A self-designed questionnaire “Business Education Programme Accreditation Questionnaire” was used for the study. It was validated by experts in measurement and evaluation to ensure face and content validity, its reliability was done using split half method and a reliability coefficient of 0.76 was obtained using Pearson Product Moment correlation statistics. Findings revealed low availability of facilities for teaching and learning business education in the institutions, inadequate office accommodation, poor preparation for accreditation, inadequate funds provision, unavailability of facilities, provision as well as poor human resources provision. Based on the findings, it was recommended that; adequate facilities should be provided to meet up the bench mark standard required for accreditation exercise and early preparation must be put in place to ensure all personnel and materials are ready for accreditation exercise. Gender has been known to be a variable which may or may not influence the way schools are governed. This paper investigates administrators' gender leadership practices and teachers' job performance in secondary schools in Kwara State. Two research questions and five research hypotheses were used to guide the study. The research design adopted was the ex-post facto. A total of 118 principals and 324 teachers were selected as sample for the study from a total population of 118 principals and 1178 teachers in Ilorin South Senatorial District secondary schools. Two validated instruments namely: 'Administrators' Gender Leadership Practices Questionnaire' (AGLPQ) and 'Teachers' Job Performance Questionnaire (TJPQ) were used to gather data for the study. Reliability co-efficient obtained for the instruments were 0.83 for AGLPG and 0.77 for TJPQ respectively. Mean and frequency counts were used to answer the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics was used to analyze the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that instructional supervision was the predominant administrators' leadership practice (3.42) while the level of teachers' job performance was high (3.35). The results further revealed that there was significant relationship between administrators' gender leadership practices and teachers' job performance. Among other things, the study recommended that school administrators in Ilorin South Senatorial District secondary schools should continue to make adequate use of administrators' leadership practices (such as instructional supervision, teamwork and strategic planning) in order to achieve the goals of the school system. This has caused challenges of development on Nigerian graduates and the rate at which productivity among the youth had dwindled. This paper examined the concept of corruption, causes of corruption in tertiary institutions such as greed, lack of infrastructural development and so on, and effects of corruption on educational system. The study further highlighted the impact of corruption in tertiary institutions and strategies of curbing the Psychosocial challenge. The paper concluded that corruption must be flushed out for appropriate measures to be adopted before it damages the tertiary institutions and the lives of leaders of tomorrow. The paper provided possible recommendations for combating corruption with among others the educational curriculum which must be revisited by educationist so as to give room for youth empowerment to enable them earn their living. Employment opportunities should be given utmost priorities by government to enable graduates fit to labour market after their National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). C.,; Eniola- Arigbe, Y.The global corona virus upsurge, also known as the COV1D-19 pandemic, poses a significant threat to the health and safety of students, teachers, parents, school administrators and educators. This paper looked at the needs and coping strategies of school teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two research questions and three hypotheses were raised to guide the study. A sample of 414 teachers was taken from a population of5,000 teachers in Kwara State, which comprises 239 public schools and 175 private schools, and 124 primary school and 290 secondary teachers respectively. A structured questionnaire titled "Teachers Coping Strategies and Needs Questionnaire"(TCNQ) was used to gather data for the study. Reliability analysis was carried out using pilot test method. The reliability co-efficient was 0.72. The following statistical tools: descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, T-test, and ANOVA were used to analyze the data obtained with R, STATA, and SPSS. There was a positive but weak correlation between teacher's needs and coping strategies (r=0.416, p.05). It was also discovered that the male teachers' needs differ significantly from the female teachers' needs. Also, similar coping strategies were adopted by both male and female teachers. Office equipment and machines are inevitable to the teaching and learning or training of office technology and management students. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study comprised of six hundred and fifty students. Random sampling was used to select 20% across the levels given a total of one hundred and fifty (150) students used for the study. A structured questionnaire based on a 5 points Likert scale was used as an instrument for data collection. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. Data collected were analysed using mean statistics to answer the research questions. The data analysed revealed that if every necessary modern office equipment and machines were provided for office technology and management department it will enhance the students’ interest towards learning of office technology and management. Based on these findings, it was concluded that Office Technology and Management Department which is responsible for turning out secretaries or office managers lack some necessary office equipment and machines. Among others it was recommended that Office technology and management department in Polytechnics should be fully provided with modern office equipment and machines. Teaching, in this dime, appears to be the professional body with the lowest form of remuneration. The study examined business studies teachers’ motivation and self-efficacy in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State. Two research questions were raised to guide the study and four hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. A total of 206 business studies teachers were used in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area. There was no sampling. The instrument for data collection was a 24-item structured questionnaire validated by experts. Frequencies percentages and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) were used for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the business studies teachers have high level of motivation and self-efficacy. Also, there is a high level of correlation between motivation and teachers’ self-efficacy. It was thereby recommended that business studies teachers should discover what produces motivation for them as 'they work, the management of schools should try to motivate the teachers in all possible ways and give incentives as and when due. Government should deem it fit to increase the salary of teachers and give them other relevant benefits. The study was conducted to find out the differences that exist in entrepreneurship competence in terms of product design, product activation and product marketing of educational management and business education students in university of Ilorin. Descriptive statistics was adapted for the study. Three research questions were raised and answered while one main hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study was of the correlation type. The population for the study comprised 860 students in both programmes, out of which 260 were sampled. A purposeful sampling technique was used to select the samples. The data for the study were collected using a structured, validated questionnaire tagged with comparison of entrepreneurship competence. The reliability of the instrument was determined with the use of Cronbach's alpha, and the result was 0.76. The returned questionnaires were analysed electronically using inferential statistics. The major finding revealed that the competency of business education students’ is higher than that of educational management due to increased level of exposure to practical. The study recommended among others that for educational management students there is need for them to be involved in more practical while business education students should not relent. OEducation is the primary agent of transformation towards sustainable development that increases people’s capacities to transform their visions for society into reality and all countries strive for quality education for their sustainable development. This paper analysed the existing trend of basic and post education programme and its implementation in Nigeria. The concept of practice in basic and post basic schools were lucidly exposed in terms of the expected goals as contained in the National Policy on Education, factors militating against basic education and the consequence on learners in post basic schools/ major challenge of poor academic performance in basic and post basic schools. The paper concludes that post basic school is dependent on basic school which is the foundational school. All challenges associated with basic schools and the consequences automatically will affect the products of post basic schools in terms of learners" academic achievement. The paper recommends among others that the contents of the National Policy on Education in Nigeria for basic and post basic education should be decoded rightly and implemented by the concerned stakeholders vis-a-vis the government, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Director of Quality Assurance, Head Teachers, Principals including parents and other. Three research questions and one hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population comprises Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, College of Education Oro and College of Education, Lafiagi, Kwara State. Random sampling technique was used to select two hundred and fifty (250) business education students out of three thousand (3000) students. Questionnaire was used as instrument and was validated by two experts. The reliability used test retest which yielded a coefficient of 0.8.Percentages were used to answer the research questions while Analysis of Variance was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 significant level. The study found that e-learning facilities are not sufficiently available in Kwara State Colleges of Education. Also, there was no significant difference in the usability of e-learning software facilities in acquiring business education skills among the 100 to 300 levels of business education students in colleges of education for self-employment in Kwara state. The study concluded that e-learning facilities were available but were limited and less accessible by students in teaching and learning business education. Based on the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others, that Governments should endeavour to provide adequate e-learning facilities and software. It was also recommended that teaching materials should be sufficiently provided for effective teaching, learning and practical skill acquisition. Skills, knowledge and competence to attain innovative individual economic survival is expected to be achieved through traditional education practice of doing it by yourself and merged that with the goal of entrepreneurship education of Western Education as embedded in the National Policy on Education. This in the long run, will make every learner to become self-employed and thus bring improvement to national development through this innovation and development.
