Item Assessment of personnel management practices in college libraries in Kwara State-owned colleges of Education, Nigeria(Department of Business Administration, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2018) Oludipe, Janet TitilayoSerious concerns have been expressed by college administrators, lecturers and students in Kwara state colleges of education over the behaviour and performance of library staff as well as the quality of services rendered which seems to be unsatisfactory. This has left the researcher to wonder if some of these staff were examined before they were recruited, or they receive further training after been recruited, or whether they are adequately motivated and disciplined. This study therefore ascertain the personnel management practices in college libraries in the three Kwara State-owned colleges of education, namely. College of Education, llorin; College of Education, iafiagi; and College of Education, Oro. Specifically, the study determined the extent to which: library staff are recruited based on the approved National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) guidelines in Kwara State colleges of education; training and development programmes are implemented for library staff using the NCCE guidelines in Kwara State colleges of education; staff motivation practices implemented by library management in Kwara State colleges of education are in line with the NCCE guidelines; staff disciplinary practices adhered to by library managers in Kwara State colleges of education are in line with the approved NCCE guidelines. A survey research design was adopted for the study. Seventy six respondents. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. Data collected were analysed with descriptive statistics, precisely mean and standard deviation. Findings of the study revealed that: to a low extent (cluster mean score of 2.03) Kwara State colleges of education recruit library staff based on the approved NCCE guidelines; to a low extent (cluster mean score of 2.44) training and development programmes are implemented for library staff using the NCCE guidelines; to a low extent (cluster mean score of 2.34) staff motivation practices implemented by library management in Kwara State colleges of education are in line with the NCCE guidelines, and to high extent (cluster mean score of 2.93) library managers in Kwara State colleges of education adhered to staff disciplinary practices in line with the approved NCCE guidelines. Based on the findings, the study recommended that: College and library management should try to improve the recruitment process through the adoption of a systematic approach to recruitment by adhering to all relevant established guidelines set-out in the NCCE conditions of service manual.Item Assessment of unethical behaviours among public library users in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State Nigeria(Journal of Library, educational media and Information studies, 2019-06) Oludipe, Janet Titilayo; Omotade, O. A descriptive survey research design was employed for this study. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select a total of 500 respondents for the study. A self-developed questionnaire titled: "Satisfaction with Library Services Questionnaire (SLSQ)” was used for data collection. 4 - point likert scale and SPSS were used to analyse the data collected. The study revealed that 70% of public Colleges of Education library users (students) are more satisfied with the information resources available than their private Colleges of Education counterpart (15%); there was a significant difference in the satisfaction of students with the efficiency of library personnel in public and private Colleges of Education in Kwara State; there was a significant difference in the satisfaction of students' with library programmes in public and private Colleges of Education in Kwara State; and 56.2% of library users (students) in public Colleges of Education are more satisfied with the general library services than 35.8% of library users (students) in private Colleges of Education in Kwara State, Nigeria. It is on this basis that the study recommended that both the owners of public and private owned Colleges of Education should ensure that information resources required to facilitate effective service delivery of the library are adequately provided in order to meet the need and satisfaction of users.Item Digital Environment and Social Exclusion in Nigeria: Roles of Libraries and other Information Service providing institutions(University of Nebraska- Lincoln, 2019) Otonekwu, Florence O.; Oludipe, Janet Titilayo; Babafemi, Grace O.; Lami, Akawu; Oyedokun, Tunde ToyeseItem Electronic learning facilities as correlates of NOUN Students' Academic performance in Ilorin Centre(Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2018-11) Oludipe, Janet TitilayoElectronic-learning facilities have played indispensable and inevitable roles in the realization of educational goals particularly at higher institutions. Thus, the study was conducted to investigate electronic-learning facilities as correlates of students' academic performance among NOUN students in Ilorin Centre. A research question was raised and three research hypotheses were formulated to guide the conduct of the study. One hundred respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique. E- Learning Facilities Questionnaire (ELFQ) and Students' Academic Performance Proforma (SAPP) were used to collect data for the study. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages was used to answer the research questions while the generated research hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation statistic at 0.05 level of significance. Findings showed that there was significant relationship between e-learning facilities and students' academic performance among NOUN students in Ilorin Centre. It was indicate that, the majority of the respondents agreed that the level of utilization of e-learning facilities in National Open University in Ilorin Centre was high. Based on the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others that, National Open Universities study Centre should seek for external and internal assistance in the provision of e-learning facilities for students. Digital library services or facilities and students' matriculation numbers should be used and provided. The matriculation numbers will serve as usernames and students can supply their own password. A sample of 568 respondents was used in this study which is 10% of the total population. A researcher - designed structured questionnaire titled "Students" Satisfaction with Library Services (SSLS)" was used for data collection. Mean score and standard deviation were used to analyse the data obtained where mean score statements 3.50 - 4.00 was classified as Highly Satisfied (HS), 2.50 - 3.49, indicated Satisfied (s) and 1.00 - 2.49 Indicated Highly Dissatisfied (DS). The study revealed that students were: highly satisfied with the reading environment (grand mean value 3.69); satisfied with the available information resources (grand mean value 3.08); satisfied with the inter-library services offered in getting unavailable information resources (grand mean value 3.13); highly satisfied with the efficiency of library personnel (grand mean value 3.69); and satisfied with the general services and resources (grand mean value 3.39) at the University of llorin library.
