Item Influence of Biology Teachers’ on Academic Performance of Students in Senior Secondary Schools in South-West Geopolitical Zone, Nigeria(Science Journal of Education, 2021) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Ogunlowo Simeon OluwoleThe objective of this study was to determine the influence of Biology teachers’ on academic performance of students in senior secondary schools in South-West Geopolitical zone, Nigeria. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 102 senior secondary schools in South-West zone, Nigeria. Two hundred and four (204) Biology teachers was involved in the study. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages and t-test. These were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that Biology teachers generally had positive influence on academic performance of students while there was no significant difference based on gender and years of teaching experience. It is recommended that the adequate instructional materials should be made available for Biology teachers to further enhance their positive influence on the students’ academic performance. Both male and female science teachers should be encouraged by provision of special incentive for improvement on their influence on students’ academic performance. An individual’s attitude is based on three components: cognitive, affective, and behavioural; hence, the role of the attitude of science teachers’ in attracting students, and sustaining the interest in the science subjects at the senior secondary school is of utmost important. The objective of this study was to assess science teachers’ attitude towards science teaching in senior secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. It was a descriptive research of the survey type in which simple random sampling technique was used to select 180 science teachers. A questionnaire instrument adapted from Patchaivaziamman and Krishnamurthy (2010) was used for the data collection. A reliability index of 0.89 was obtained by the test-retest method using Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, t-test. These were used to answer the research questions and also test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that science teachers generally had positive attitude towards science teaching (t= 13.00 at p < 0.05). Based on the findings of this study it is hereby recommended that; the science teachers should regularly develop positive attitude towards the teaching of science subject since they are the role model. They should be well catered for by paying their salaries and allowance on time. They should be encouraged to motivate others in science teaching. Others science teachers should seek for knowledge in other areas to update their own area for the better performance of the students. Both male and female science teachers should be given equal exposure and opportunities for science teaching.Item Instructional resources for teachıng bıology ın secondary schools ın Moro, Kwara State, Nigeria(Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, East Java, Indonesia, 2022) Abidoye, Florence Omosholape; Maroof, Zanab Aliyu; Aduke Rihanat Ahmed; Ogunlowo Simeon OluwoleInstructional resources play an important role in conducting high quality education. This research assessed the availability and utilization of instructional resources in Moro Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey researchwas adopted for the study. A total of sixty (60) Biology teachers were randomly sampled from eighteen (18) schools in Moro Local Government Area Kwara State. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided this study. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection and the data was analysed using simple percentage, ANOVA and t-test. The resultsof the study revealed that instructional resources for teaching Biology were not available in most senior secondary schools in Moro LGA of Kwara State. As high as 51%Biology teachers’ ultilizedavailable instructional resources. Teachers’academic qualification significantly influences their use of instructional resources for teaching Biology and there was no significant influence of school type in the use of instructional resources in teaching Biology. Recommendations made were that the government should provide more equipment for the schools for effective teaching and learning Biology, teachers should be encouraged to use Biology laboratory equipment, and in-service teachers training should be encouraged to improve their qualification.
