Item Attribution of Causes of High Blood Pressure among Married Adults in Ogbomoso, Oyo State(Department of Physical and Health Education, Faculty of Education, University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria., 2017-03) Alwajud-Adewusi, M.B; Odebode, A.A; Mustapha, M.L.A.; & Adegboyega, L.O.High blood pressure is a health problem with devastating consequences. This study aimed to investigate the attributed causes of high blood pressure among married adults in Ogbomoso. The descriptive research design was employed for the study. The simple random and proportionate sampling techniques were employed in selecting samples from selected local government areas. The t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to analyse the data generated. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the attributed causes of high blood pressure on the basis of gender. However, there were significant differences on the bases of age and educational level. It was recommended that healthy lifestyle habits such as regular exercise, less salt consumption, adequate intake of fruits and vegetables, reduction of alcohol intake and smoking should be encouraged to reduce the incidence of high blood pressure.Item Caregivers' Perception of the Consequences of Breast Cancer in Kwara State, Nigeria: Implications for Health Educators(Department of Education, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, 2017-09) Odebode, A.A; Adebayo, D.O.,; Alwajud-Adewusi, M.B.; & Okesina, F.A.Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and the highest leading cause of death among women. This study investigated the caregivers’ perception of the consequences of breast cancer in Kwara State. Differences in the participants’ perception based on duration of care giving and level of education were also examined. This study employed a descriptive survey method. A sample of 100 women, who are caregivers, selected through purposive sampling participated in the participants in the study. A self-designed questionnaire titled Consequence of Breast Cancer Questionnaire, (CBCQ) was used for data collection. The validity of the instrument was done by experts in the Departments of Counsellor Education and Behavioural Science, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The reliability of the instrument was established using split-half reliability method and correlation coefficients of 0.62 was obtained. The data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages and means and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that caregivers perceived consequences of breast cancer to be depression, chronic pain, emotional distress and death. It was also revealed that there were no significant differences in the participants’ perception of the consequences of breast cancer based on duration of care giving and level of education. Conclusion was drawn that the consequences of breast cancer are devastating therefore, health educators should train caregivers through organization of workshops, on how to handle the consequences of breast cancer, with the aim of helping women with breast cancer cope with the found consequences.Item Efficacy of traditional family planning as perceived by educated mothers in Jebba town Kwara State.(A publication of College of Education, Osun State University, 2017) . Oniye, A.O; Bolu-Steve, F.N; Odebode, A.A; Olorunniyi, E.SThe main purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of traditional family planning methods as perceived by mothers in Jebba town. This study adopted descriptive survey design. The target population for the study consist of mothers in Jebba town, Kwara State. For the purpose of this study, mothers were randomly selected in schools and offices. Two hundred mothers who could read and write were purposively selected for this study. The six research hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. A questionnaire titled ‘Efficacy of Traditional Family Planning Questionnaire’ was designed and used by the researcher to gather information for the study. The data collected were analyzed through the use of mean, standard deviation, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical methods. Results of the findings revealed that there were no significant differences in the perception of mothers towards traditional family planning methods on the basis of age, educational qualification, religion, duration of marriage, tribe while a significant difference was found on the basis of religion. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that adequate awareness be made on the various birth control methods that are available. Seminars, workshop and career talks can be organized by the counsellor in collaboration with the government, philanthropists, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on the use of modern family planning methods.Item Sources of academic stress and coping strategies of students of University of Ilorin.(An Official Journal of the Department of Educational Foundation, University of Benin, 2017) Bolu-Steve, F.N; Okesina, F.N; Odebode, A.AThe main focus of this study was to investigate sources academic stress and coping strategies of students in University of Ilorin, Nigeria. An instrument titled Academic Stress and Coping Strategies Questionnaire (ASCSQ) was administered on 320 students of the University. The Researchers’ developed questionnaire has three sections. Section A contained the demographic data while section B elicited information on sources of Academic Stress.Section C contained items on coping strategies. A reliability co-efficient of 0.72 was obtained; hence the instrument was statistically reliable. The students were stratified based on gender and age. The researchers then selected 320 respondents using simple random sampling technique. Four null hypotheses were formulated and tested using the t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical methods at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings of this study showed that the major source of academic stress among respondents was when there are various assignments to be completed. There was significant difference in the sources of academic stress among the respondents on the bases of gender. However, respondents did not differ in their coping strategies on the basis of gender and, age. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Counsellors should provide necessary information on variety of ways in which students can manage academic stress.
