Item MANAGEMENT AND SUCCESSION PLANNING PROBLEMS OF SELECTED SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES(SMEs) IN SOUTH WEST, NIGERIA(DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSE, JIGAWA STATE-NIGERIA, 2016-07) GBADEYAN, R.A. PhD.; OMOLEKAN,O.J.There are many businesses which have started well, but could not survive long, not because they lack the right strategies to stay in business, but because they lack proper succession policy that guarantee their continuing existence. The objective of this paper is to examine, the influence of effective management succession planning; on Small and Medium Scale enterprises' sustainability, in South West Nigeria. There were 305 copies of structured questionnaires administered to business owners and decision maker in some selected SMEs in Lagos and Ibadan using convenience sampling. 290 of these questionnaires were filled and returned. The formulated hypotheses were tested with t- test statistic technique. The study reveals that effective management succession planning is vital to the survival and continuity of small and medium scale enterprises. The study concludes that Management succession can work in Nigerian SMEs, if appropriate Succession planning principles were followed by the entrepreneurs. The paper recommends that business owners should find the best person to succeed them even after their death, so that business continuity will be achieved.Item MANAGING INTERNAL POLITICS FOR ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS(COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES, SAMUEL ADEBOYEGA UNIVERSITY, OGWA, EDO STATE, NIGERIA, 2012-09) OMOLEKAN,O.J.An organization is made up of people managing and coordinating other resources for achievement of stated objectives within an unstable and complex environment. Because people are involved and because the organization always fails to live up to its expectations in terms of rationality and objectivity, political behaviours become commonality and objectivity, political behavior become commonplace. Politics may be positive (collaborative) or negative (destructive and competitive) but the fact is that no organization can exist without politics. The main concerns of managers and organization behaviour practitioners is thus how to manage organizational politics to achieve organizational goals and objectives. That is the focus of this paper, which specifically dwells on how the organization and various citizens can cope with the political dynamics in the workplace. Politics cannot be eradicated in a workplace, but must be managed effectively to achieve the organization's goals and objectives. The study seeks to examine the effect of organizational politics on the achievement of organization's goals and objectives and also to identify principles for managing organizational politics. Primary data was used for this study which was generated through structured questionnaires with closed ended questions. Z-test was used to test the research hypothesis. The respondents were randomly chosen from ministries within Benin City metropolis. Results of Z- test indicated that organizational politics has a significant impact on the achievement organization's goals and objectives and that politics cannot be eradicated but must be managed effectively to achieve organizational success. Applicable recommendations were made for organizations generally.
