Item E-LEARNING FACILITIES AVAILABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITIES IN KWARA STATE(Nigerian Journal of Educational Foundations, 2019) OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma Charity; SOFOLUWE, Abayomi OlumadeThis study focused on e-learning facilities availability and business education students’ academic performance in universities in Kwara state. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship that exist between e-learning facilities availability and business education students’ academic performance in selected universities in Kwara state. The population for this work consists of all universities in Kwara state. Three universities (University of Ilorin, Kwara State University and Al-Hikmah University Ilorin) were selected purposively. The target population for this study consists of all business education students in University of Ilorin (398 students), Ilorin, Kwara State University, Malete (155 students) and Al-Hikmah University Ilorin Kwara state (16 students). Proportional sampling techniques was used to select 35% of the target population. 140 of 398 students were selected from university of Ilorin, 54 of 155 students were selected from Kwara state University Malete and 6 out of 16 students were selected from Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, which amounted to 200 business education students from the three selected universities. Two researcher designed instruments titled Availability and Accessibility questionnaire (AAQ) and Students’ Academic Performance Pro-forma (SAPP) were used to gather data used for the study. The academic performances were gathered using the business education final year students’ results. The findings of this study revealed that there was relationship between e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. There was significant relationship between availability of e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. Furthermore, the result of the findings shows that there was significant relationship between accessibility of e-learning facilities and students’ academic performance with P-value of 0.000 at (0.05) level of significance. Based on the findings, the study therefore recommends among others that; the e-learning facilities such as personal computers should be made available and cheaper than they are in order to enable most if not all of the students be able to be in possession of it. Therefore, it was concluded that e-learning facilities such as phone, PC tablet, e-mail and internet facilities had significant relationship with students’ academic performance in universities in Kwara state.Item ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT FOR POVERTY ERADICATION IN NIGERIA(Ilorin Journal of Business Education (IJBE), 2017) OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma CharityEmpirical studies revealed that the problem of poverty is highly prevalent in most sub-Saharan African such as Nigeria. This situation calls for various international agencies and government of those nations to embark on strategies to alleviate the scourge of poverty and promote productive ventures. Poverty is a global issue and could be combated through targeted entrepreneurial education and training.The objective of the paper is to examine the roles of entrepreneurial education and infrastructural development for poverty eradication in Nigeria. Since education is an important engine for economic growth and development of any nation, it is necessary that adequate attention is paid to entrepreneurial education as a prerequisite for national development. No nation can boost of being developed without the activities of entrepreneurs. These are the people that bring innovation and invention into the economy and whose activities bring wealth to the nation, they are otherwise known as the” risk takers”. Education plays a role in the nation’s economy because when entrepreneurial education is being introduced into educational curriculum from the primary school through to University level, students mind would have been channeled or better prepared towards entrepreneurship, so that by the time they leave school at the completion of their courses, they become self-reliant. This paper further highlights the need for infrastructural development as a catalyst for entrepreneurship which the resultant effect is poverty eradication. Different approaches were examined as a way of discovering opportunities such as regular entrepreneurship, promotion of innovation etc. It was recommended amongst others that the government should invest largely on infrastructural development so that entrepreneurs will be encouraged to invest in the economy.Item EXPLORING OFFLINE AND ONLINE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL INSTRUCTION IN NIGERIA(2021-08-07) AWODIJI, Omotayo Adewale; OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma CharityIn this era of knowledge-based economy, one of the areas of assessing a nation is its growth in the use of computer. The purpose of this paper is to explore offline and online educational resources for primary school instruction, so as to improve learning of pupils, and the traditional means of instruction to the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as a means of instruction. The concepts of offline and online learning processes were discussed. Literature was reviewed on the concepts, from current authorities in the field of academics. More so, the implications for using offline/online educational resources as a means of instruction were itemized, such as cost effectiveness and time saving, flexibility, availability, among others. Also, the effective ways of using offline/online as a means of instruction were discussed. These are: mastery of the subject matter, which should be attractive, the platform should be easy to navigate, and there should be enhancement of contact so as to improve communication between the teacher and the pupils. Recommendations such that government at all levels and private individuals should subscribe to offline and online so as to reduce cost and to save time were made. Moreover, teachers are to be trained on the effective ways of handling these educational resources as a mode of instruction in primary schoolsItem LECTURERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE AND STUDENTS’ WASTAGE RATE IN KWARA STATE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS, NIGERIA(UNIZIK Journal of Educational Management and Policy, 2020-07-30) AWODIJI, Omotayo Adewale; OLUWALOLA, Felicia Kikelomo; OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma CharityThis paper investigated the lecturers’ job performance and students’ wastage rate in tertiary institutions, in Kwara State, Nigeria, 2007/2008-2009/2010 academic session. Lecturer job performance and student wastage rate concepts were reviewed under which some indicators for measuring both variables were mentioned. The descriptive design of correlation type was adopted for this study which aimed at finding out the relationship between lecturers’ job performance and students’ wastage rate. Four out of the eight tertiary institutions in Kwara State were sampled using random simple sampling technique. Two researcher designed instruments were used for data collection which are a questionnaire tagged, “Lecturers’ Job Performance Questionnaire” (LJPQ) and a checklist tagged “Students’ Wastage Checklist” (SWC). Cronbach method through a pilot test was employed to determine the reliability of the instrument which yielded coefficient values of 0.85 for (LJPQ). The research questions were answered using percentage while Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that a significant relationship existed between lecturers’ job performance and students’ wastage rate (p-value < 0.05). It was recommended among others that wastage rate should be reduced to the barest minimum by ensuring that admission is based on merit, and that institution management in the polytechnics should encourage lecturers to publish books and also improve their academic knowledge from time to timeItem PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS AND TEACHERS EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ILORIN METROPOLIS, KWARA STATE(International Journal of Educational Management, 2021) OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma Charity; OLUWALOLA, Felicia KikelomoThis paper investigated the relationship between Administrative Skills and Teachers Effectiveness in public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State. The research design was descriptive survey, stratified random sampling was used to select a total of 200 participants out of 1178 teachers from 21 public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area. Questionnaires titled Principals Administrative Skill Questionnaire (PASQ) and Teachers Effectiveness Questionnaire (TEQ) was used to collect data for the study. Five research questions were raised to guide the study, one main hypothesis and three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The data were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation statistics and multiple regression statistics. The findings revealed among others that proper information channel was used by principals to enhance necessary decision making in schools; it showed that management information system impacted positive significance on teachers effectiveness, furthermore, it revealed that communication skills was statistically significant on teachers effectiveness. It was concluded that, principals administrative skills should incorporate good communication network for proper information dissemination, as this will enhance necessary decision making and impact positively on teachers’ effectiveness. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that principals should increase the use of proper communication channels to enhance teachers’ effectiveness.Item RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND SECONDARY SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS IN ILORIN SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA(International Journal of Educational Management, 2018) OGBUDINKPA, Ijeoma CharityThe place of resources {human and material} and its management in achieving school effectiveness in secondary schools cannot be over-emphasized. It is against this background that this study examined resource management and school effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. The study is a descriptive study of the survey type. The population of the study consisted of all the principals, vice principals and head of departments of public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 91 respondents from 13 secondary schools in the Local Government Area.The main and six operational hypotheses were raised and tested for the study. The data were collected using a researcher made questionnaire titled Resource Management Questionnaire (RMQ) and Student’s Academic Performance format (SAPF) which was analyzed using Person Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Findings revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between resource management and school effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. This implies that staff development, staff relations, utilization and maintenance of classroom, utilization and maintenance of staff office, utilization and maintenance of library will go a long way in improving school effectiveness in secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. It was recommended that resources should be made available by the government and also be properly utilized and maintained. This study further recommended among others that the school administrators and staff should endeavor to imbibe and improve on maintenance culture so that the limited available resources could be highly managed effectively and efficiently. This paper examinesthe basic knowledge on how to deal with school safety and health issues in a learning environment. Every school manager needs a working knowledge of the occupational safety and Health Act, its purpose, standards, managements roles in safety, as well as staff!students and school management rights and responsibilities. "ccupational safety law i.e the legal environment, #reach of statutory duty and causes of accidents were also discussed. The paper suggested that in preventing accidents in order to ensure schools health and safety, the school must perform two basic activities$ reducing unsafe conditions and reducing unsafe acts so as to promote effective learning environment. %n conclusion, instituting a basic facility security programme involves analyzing the current level of risk and then installing mechanical, natural and organizational security systems. It is observed that managing talent in Nigeria is yet to be a dream come true; hence, daily the nation loses its talents to other nations through brain drain as they go in search of greener pastures. A lot of things have contributed to the ineffectiveness in the management of talents in Nigeria such as lack of vision, tribalism, favoritism, federal character and corruption among the government officials and some universities in the country. The population for this study comprised three selected universities in south west Nigeria. One researcher- designed instrument entitled “Talent management questionnaire” (T M Q) was used to collect relevant data from the sampled institutions. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The findings revealed that: a significant relationship existed between talent management in Arts and sustainable national development, the level of school curriculum that deals on talent management in universities in Nigeria was on the average/moderate and finally among others, there was no significant relationship between talent discovery in universities in Nigeria and sustainable national development.It was concluded in the study that for national development to be sustained and retained, there is need to map out strategies, channel talents and focus solely on talent management schemes to cure the inefficiency and ineffectiveness in the system and booms the nations’ economy. Consistent development and re-training of teachers will improve capability of teachers for quality education delivery. The study is set to examine ways in which entrepreneurs with meagre resources could be transformed into bigger entities and become a dominant institution. Institutions such as schools and other business enterprises should imbibe entrepreneurial attitude involving creativity, innovation and drive in order to profitably take advantage of every available opportunity. Organisations are to work hard at creating, nurturing and sustaining an entrepreneurial culture that encourages innovative thinking. This paper further examined the concept of entrepreneurship, development of business and strategies to be adopted considering the meagre available resources. It went further to determine other requirements for organisation with little capital, qualities for success in small business. It also considered strategic direction, a situation in which organisations are to employ the use of SWOT analysis to pursue their goals. The paper concluded that the little capital available to small businesses is a source of challenge, as they continue to struggle with customers who are rational and want to get more value for their money, most especially in the face of current global competition.
