Item Challenges in sustaining youth empowerment programmes in Nigeria: The way forward(Published by Nigerian National Council For Adult Education., 2018-09-03) Kayode, S. O.Unemployment has become a major problem affecting the lives of Nigerian youths, causing increased militancy, violent crimes, kidnappings, restiveness and socially, delinquent behaviour. Youth unemployment is devastating to both the individual and the society as a whole both psychologically and economically. The paper examine the issues of youth unemployment, consequences and possible solution such as potential intervention measures for effective career guidance, technical and vocational education. Recommendations were made which include that youths should be trained to possess skills which are congruent with real labour market demands, developing a special focus on career guidance, and robust platform for youths to develop their creative potentials. The paper concludes that the stakeholders should provide job opportunities to positively empower the youths to make them self-reliant through vocational and technical education (Agriculture, Fishery and Bee keeping) so as to reduce drastically unemployment that could mar their future by involving in undesirable behaviours.Item Relevance and uses of information and communication technology among selected Adult Market Women in Ilorin West and Kaiama LGA, Kwara State.(Journal of Nigerian National Council for Adult Education. T.; Najeem, A.H.This paper evaluated the relevance and uses of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) among market women in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. The objectives were to unravel the extent of ICT literacy among women, to evaluate the relevance of ICT among selected market women, and to examine the extent to which ICT is use by .women to empower themselves through sustainable poverty reduction. A total of 120 market women participated in the study it was revealed from the finding that ICTs offer a wide range of information and knowledge, which are critical components of poverty alleviation strategies, ICT are viewed as near-magic solution to problems which proved useful as it provides information on prices, markets, technology and potential entrepreneurship skills. It was concluded that women entrepreneurs' use of ICT Infrastructure and systems in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State is limited and even the ones in use are not widely explored and channeled for business development. It was recommended among others there is a need to establish women's clubs and the existing ones strengthen in communication skills and ICT just as in the case of a group (Self employed Women Association) in India in where the trained in the production and use of video to generate income, disseminate new skills and to advocate for changes. in policy, thus ICT's will not only empower the gender but sustain poverty alleviation programmes which in time past have failed in Nigeria through provision of new and enhanced opportunities for participation in the process of self-determination, economic, social, educational and cultural advancement and employment beyond the scope of traditional institutions and any form of governance.
