Item Effectiveness of Client-Centred Therapy (CCT) in reducing Bullying Behaviour among In-school adolescents based on gender and age.(2016) Makinde, Bola O.; Mustapha, Mulikat Ladi A.; Okesina, Falilat AnikeBullying behaviour refers to the intimidation of a weaker person: it is the process of intimidating or mistreating someone who is weaker or in a more vulnerable situation. This study established the effectiveness of Client-Centred Therapy (CCT) in reducing Bullying Behaviour among In-school adolescents. The study was Quasi experimental in nature using a 2x2 x2 factorial design made up of two (2) row groups (one experimental and one control) and two (2) column groups (age and gender). Instrument used for the study was Bullying Identification Questionnaire (BIO). Bullying behaviour was studied; only those that scored high in bullying items and less in victimisation items participated in the study. CCT was found effective in the reduction of bullying behaviour among in-school adolescents F=105, df (1, 47); gender and age have moderating effects on the reduction of bullying behaviour among in-school adolescents, F(df= 1, 47) =34.6); F(df = 1.47) =52.5. p<0.05) respectively. CCT reduced bullying behaviour more significantly among in-school adolescents within the age range of 1 5-19 years than adolescents within the age range of 1 0-14 years. It was recommended that CCT be used in the treatment of in-school adolescents with bullying behaviours.Item Influence of Demographic Variables on Factors Responsible for Premarital Sexual Activities among Emerging Adults in Kwara State(Department of Psychology, Covenant University, Otta, Ogun State, Nigeria, 2020-06) Mustapha, Mulikat Ladi A.; Agubosi, Lydia A.; Shuaib, Rahmat NurudeenDemographic attributes are part of the self-establishment of the youths which seem to influence their conducts; including sexual activities. This study thus investigated the influence of demographic variables of educational attainment, family type and gender on factors responsible for premarital erotic activities among emerging adults in Kwara State. The inquiry adopted narrative survey model. A multi-stage selection procedure was used to select 423 respondents across institutions of higher education in Kwara State. However, 397 questionnaires were adequate for data analysis. A researcher-designed instrument entitled “Demographic Variables and Premarital Sexual Activities Questionnaire (DVPSAQ)†was used to collect data for the study. The questionnaire possessed a test consistency co-efficient of 0.60. The hypothesis was tested using a 3-way Analysis of Variance statistics at the 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study revealed that demographic variables of gender, family type and level of education have no significant influence on premarital sexual activities of emerging adults in Kwara State. It was recommended based on the findings that educational stakeholders should organize sexuality education seminars in the schools and communities for emerging adults and counselling centres should be established in every tertiary institution and the counsellors shape students’ perception towards healthy sexual conduct regardless of demographic attributes.Item Strategies employed by teachers in handling deviant behaviours among in-school adolescents in llorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State(Azion Resources Limited, 2018) Mustapha, Mulikat Ladi A.; Okesina, Falilat Anike; Salawudeen, Azeez OmotoshoThe occurrences of deviant acts amongst students have been of great concern to stakeholders in education. This study, therefore, considered the strategies utilised by teachers in handling deviant behaviours among in-school adolescents in llorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. A total of 307 post primary school tutors were randomly selected using a questionnaire titled: Strategies for Handling Deviant Behaviour to amass pertinent data. Four null postulations were made and verified at 0.05 level of significance. Percentile and weighted means were applied to appraise the factual data as t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics were applied to confirm the postulated hypotheses. The outcomes of the inquiry showed that the strategies utilised by teachers are setting clear rules and regulations, employing corporal punishment, referring student(s) who engaged in deviant behaviours for counselling among others. Regarding the postulations, a significant variance was established in the approaches utilised by respondents based on gender and teaching experience but no significant variation was noticed based on scholastic qualification and age. Premised on the outcomes of the inquiry, it was recommended that counsellors should organize workshops for teachers on effective strategies or handling deviant behaviours. They should also advocate preventive strategies for handling deviant behaviours and discourage the use of corporal punishment.
