A sample of 400 adolescents in 20 randomly selected schools in Ilorin Metropolis participated in the study. The data for the study were gathered using questionnaire titled “family background and bullying behaviour of in-school adolescents”. The data were analysed using frequency count, check list and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result of the study revealed that relationship exists between parenting styles and bullying behaviour of in – school adolescents (R= 0.352). Result also shows that adolescent’s involvement in bullying behaviour did not relate with family structure (R = -0.038). Negative relationship exists between in – school adolescents bullying behaviour and parents’ socio – economic status (R = -0.323). The study finally revealed that there is relationship between parents’ educational qualification and in – school adolescents bullying behaviour with that of mother’s educational qualifications been negatively related. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the sexual behaviours of undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Kwara State. The study also examined whether or not variables of gender and school type had significant influence on the sexual behaviours of undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study while purposive sampling and proportional stratified sampling techniques were used to draw a sample of 640 undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Kwara state. The main research instrument employed for data collection was “Sexual Behaviour of Undergraduates Questionnaire (SBUQ). The instrument was subjected to test re-test reliability technique and a coefficient of 0.65 was obtained. Four research questions were raised and three research hypotheses formulated and tested. Data collected were computed using frequency counts; percentages, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The hypotheses generated were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The main findings of the study indicated deep kissing with the opposite sex, sex activities for pleasure and manual stimulation as the main sexual behaviours of undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Kwara state, Nigeria. The study found a significant difference in the sexual behaviours of respondents on the basis of school type but no significant difference on the basis of gender. The implications of the findings are that undergraduates who engage in premarital sexual behaviours may be prone to STDs and other infectious diseases which could impact negatively on their family life. In line with the findings of the study, it was recommended that stakeholders, especially the school counsellors and teachers should provide guidance to students on developmental challenges and help youths to abstain from risky sexual behaviours. The study also stresses the need for regular sensitisation of undergraduates on positive attitude towards sex. Guidance and counselling units should be established in tertiary institutions so that guidance services can be provided on reproductive health.Item STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AS PERCEIVED BY TEACHERS IN OGBOMOSO METROPOLIS(Department of Social Sciences Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2019-01) Mustapha, Mulikat Ladi; Aremu, Sunday OlayinkaThe impact of the increasing attainment of educational qualification is not well felt in Nigerian society. For academic qualification of citizens to impact positively in the society, the attainment must be through decent, acceptable standard, just and honest means. The role of teachers in promoting academic integrity cannot be overemphasized. This investigation therefore focused on teachers’ perception on strategies for promoting academic integrity among secondary school students considering the extent to which the variables of age, gender, educational qualification, teaching experience and religion moderate respondents’ perception. The study adopted the descriptive survey to sample the views of 367 respondents out of which 285 copies of the measure returned were viable for analysis. Simple and stratified random sampling techniques were used to pick out of the entire population of secondary school teachers in both private and public schools in the metropolis. Data collected were analysed using rank order analysis, t-test and Analysis of Variance statistics. The outcome of the study revealed that enlightening students on academic integrity during orientation and on daily basis, ensuring that teachers depict academic honesty by serving as role models to students, encouraging hard work among students among others are strategies that can promote academic integrity. Respondents did not vary in their perception on the basis of age, gender, academic qualification, teaching experience and religion. Counselors should therefore support teachers in performing their roles in promoting academic integrity through sensitization and organization of workshops and conferences.
