Item Assessment of Educational and Social Needs of Internally Displaced Persons in Kaduna, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt-Nigeria, 2016) Abdulrasaq Olatunji, BALOGUN; M.I., Jimoh; I. P., Okafor; A.O., Iyekolo; I., AzizThis study was a survey of educational and skill acquisition needs of internally displaced persons in Kaduna, Nigeria. The population for the study comprised all internally displaced persons in Kaduna State. Researchers purposively sample 200 internally displaced person seeking asylum in Mando Hajj camp in Kaduna, Nigeria. Researchers designed a questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. The finding of the study reveals that many of respondents sampled demanded the free cost of education at all levels, issuance of enrolment documents to facilitate the enrolment of school-age children. The study also revealed that displaced persons need to acquire skills in various vocations so as to enable them to cater to their needs and give up restiveness. The study, therefore, recommended that the government should make education free for the displaced school-age persons and also establish vocational training school in the displaced person camp.Item LECTURERS PERCEPTION OF CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG EDUCATED YOUTHS IN NIGERIA: THE SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS(Institute of Education and Professional Development, University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwaibom State, Nigeria, 2017) Abdulrasaq Olatunji, BALOGUN; M.I., Jimoh; I. P., Okafor; A.O., Iyekolo; G, MuhammedM.F.This study examined University staff perception of causes and social implications of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to: (i) The perception of University of Ilorin Faculty of Education Lecturers on the causes of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria (ii) The perception of University of Ilorin Faculty of Education Lecturers on the social implications of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. (iii) Whether there is any difference in the perception of males and females Faculty of Education Lecturers on the causes of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. and (iv) Whether there is any difference in the perception of males and females Faculty of Education Lecturers on the social implications of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. The descriptive research design of the survey type was used in this study. Four research questions were raised and two hypotheses were tested. The populations for the study comprised all lecturers in the University of Ilorin while target population was lecturers in the faculty of education, university of Ilorin. All 99 available Faculty of Education Lecturers in the University of Ilorin were used as respondents in the study. The questionnaire titled University Staff Perception of the Causes and Social implications of Educated Youth Unemployment Questionnaire (USPCASEYUQ) was used to elicit information from the respondents. The validity of the was ensured through face validity approach. Test re-test method of reliability was used to test the reliability of the instrument and the coefficient value of 0.63r was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The findings of the study revealed that outdated school curricula and lack of employable skills, too much emphasis on University certificates, neglect of skill acquisition training and lack of equal educational opportunities were the major causes of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. Findings also revealed that an increase in insecurity, reduction in incentives for school completion and civil disorder were identified as the major implications of educated youth unemployment in Nigeria. The study, therefore, recommended that government should provide employment opportunities for teaming educated unemployed youths and the ability of the government to review the educational policies and curriculum in such a way that will afford the youths the opportunity to meet up with the dire needs of employers and make them be self-reliant.Item School Based Assessment as a Determinant of Students Achievement in WAEC and NECO Examination: Geography in Focus(Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benicity, Nigeria, 2015) M.I., Jimoh; A.T., Olutola; Abdulrasaq Olatunji, BALOGUNThis study investigated school-based assessment as a determinant of students' achievement in WAEC and NECO SSCE in geography. The ex-post facto research design was employed for this study. The population of this study consisted of all the senior secondary school certificate geography candidates in the public schools in Ilorin metropolis while the target population comprised all candidates who sat for both the WAEC and NECO geography SSCE in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 academic sessions. Ten public Senior Secondary Schools were randomly sampled. A total of five thousand eight hundred and eighty- four (5, 884) candidates results that sat for the WAEC and NECO Geography SSCE for the academic session 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 in Ilorin metropolis were considered. Proforma and questionnaire were used to collect data. Analysis of data was carried out using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistic to test the two hypotheses postulated at the alpha level of 0.05. The findings revealed that there were the low positive and moderate relationship in both hypotheses tested between School-Based Assessment and the students' performance in WAEC and NECO Geography SSCE respectively. Based on these findings, it was recommended that teachers and officers in the examination bodies indicted in manipulating school-Based assessment scores should be regarded as saboteur and be made to face the same charges like those that engaged in examination malpractice.
