Item CULTURAL TOURISM SITES IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA: POTENTIALS AND CHALLENGES(The Department of Theatre Arts, University of Abuja, Abuja, 2023) Kazeem RUFAI-AHMAD; Femi Yinka ATTEHCultural tourism is the exploration and experiencing of cultural manifestations such as indigenous cultural practices rooted in the peoples’ cultural festivals, carnivals, arts centres, arts exhibitions, museums, theatre and so on. Cultural tourism serves as an alternative to the dwindling revenues from oil and gas sector in Nigeria. Despite the huge potential inherent in cultural tourism, its development has not been given adequate attention by both the private sector and the state government. The Nigeria cultural policy states that the federal government of Nigeria shall promote domestic tourism and provide facilities for its promotion. However, this is not the reality in cultural tourism development and promotion in Kwara State. The position of the cultural policy on cultural tourism promotion is not the current reality as the state government failed to set up attractions for various available cultural sites to aid the promotion of cultural tourism in Kwara State. Given this, the paper examines issues relating to the development of cultural sites and effective cultural tourism promotion in Kwara State, Nigeria. The paper Employs the descriptive method and interview instrument to interrogate reasons for low patronage of cultural sites in Kwara State. The paper reveals that low patronage of cultural sites is due to the non-availability of attractions with a beautiful ambience which can attract the local and international tourist, inadequate infrastructural facilities and lack of private sector involvement in the running of tourist sites. The paper concludes that cultural tourism relies on provision of infrastructures, effective promotion and efficient management of both human and material resources to promote cultural diplomacy and national development.Item Interrogating the applicability of Henri Fayol’s administrative principles to the management of cultural festivals in Nigeria.(Theatre and Film Studies Department, Faculty of Humanities, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworokwu, Port Harcourt., 2025-12) Kazeem RUFAI-AHMADThe application of theoretical approach to verify certain phenomenon in science, humanity and management field of academic endeavours cannot be over-emphasised. This is because applying theoretical postulations to actualise, experiment, establish or define certain concepts is germane to widen the scope of knowledge acquisition. One of the earlier theories in the field of management is Henri Fayol's administrative principles which has been applied by different management experts over the years. Fayol's administrative theory has been said to be obsolete but its relevance to contemporary management cannot be quantified. For this reason, the paper interrogates the applicability of Henri Fayol's principles of administration to the management of selected cultural festivals in Nigeria to establish its relevance to contemporary management. The paper employed qualitative research method. Interview and participant observation were employed to gather data from culture custodians, festival management committee and members of the traditional institution. The paper revealed that some tenets of Henri Fayol's administrative principles such as division of work, authority and responsibility, centralisation, unity of command, unity of direction, scalar chain and esprit de corps were overtly or covertly applied in managing the selected cultural festivals. The paper further revealed that other administrative options were integrated to complement Fayol's administrative principles. The paper concluded that Fayol's theoretical postulations were merely coincidentally reflected in the traditional system of festival management as portrayed in the selected cultural festivals. Therefore, Fayol's theory is partially applicable despite the criticisms that surrounded its application to contemporary management.Item Theatre of commitment in the management of the Nigerian nation: A study of Akanji Nasiru's the Rally and Bakare Ojo Rasaki's Rogbodiyan(The Department of Theatre and Media Arts, Faculty of Arts, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, 2017-04) Kazeem RUFAI-AHMADTheatre of commitment is an ideological effort from the part of a committed playwright to write his works based on emerging issues which affect the wellbeing of the people. The focus of the ideological engagement of such playwright is to create an environment within the text in which issues that affect the people are portrayed and solutions are proffered. In view of this socio-political and culturally inclined committed theatre, this paper examines Akanji Nasiru's The Rally and Bakare Ojo Rasaki's Rogbodiyan as committed theatre and paradigms for change management in the Nigerian nation. This paper employs deductive and descriptive methods of research. It has come to the fore in this paper that for effective governance and management of the Nigerian nation, national consciousness through people's participation in politics, quality leadership, accountability and transparency are paramount. This paper, therefore, concludes that the voices of Nigerians should be recognised and their fundamental human rights be protected by governing the Nigerian nation in accordance with people's yearnings and aspirations.
