Item Beneficiaries and Non-Beneficiaries Perceived Causes of Poverty and the Progress of Poverty Alleviation Programme in Ilorin Metropolis.(Published by Institute Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2011) ABDULSALAM, Oladimeji Sholagberu; KAYODE, Sadiq ToyinThe study investigates causes of poverty as perceived by the beneficiaries and non- beneficiaries of poverty alleviation programme in Ilorin metropolis. The concept of poverty and its causes was discussed extensively. Two research questions were raised and answered. Descriptive survey was used in the study. Three hundred and seventy-five (375) beneficiaries and three hundred and eighty (380) non-beneficiaries of the poverty alleviation programme constituted sample for the study. The data generated from the study was subjected to statistical analysis of frequency count and percentage as well as mean score. Any figure above means score of 2.5 was considered acceptable decision while below 2.5 was considered as rejected decision on the causes of poverty. Result of the findings revealed that inadequate access to financial assistance, inadequate access to vocational skills, illiteracy and lack of people's participation in development programme were found to be the causes of poverty in Ilorin metropolis. It was recommended among other that adult literacy programme should be included in future poverty alleviation programme, and the government should wage anti-corruption crusade on the officials of the programme was well as creation of awareness campaign for the people.Item Challenges in Sustaining Youth Empowerment Programmes in Nigeria: The way forward(Published by Nigerian National Council for Adult Education, 2018) KAYODE, Sadiq Toyin; NAJMUDEEN, Aminat Hassan; MR. SHOLAGBERU, ABDULSALAM. O.Unemployment has become a major problem affecting the lives of Nigeria youths, causing increased militancy, violent crimes, kidnappings, restiveness and socially delinquent behaviour. Youth employment is devastating to both the individual and the society as a whole both psychologically and economically. The paper examine the issues of youth unemployment, consequences and possible solution such as potential intervention measures for effective career guidance, technical and vocational education. Recommendations were made which include that youths should be trained to possess skills which are congruent with real labor market demands, developing a special focus on career guidance, and robust platform for youths to develop their creative potentials. The paper concludes that the stakeholders should provide job opportunities to positively empower the youths to make then self-reliant through vocational and technical education (Agriculture, Fishery and Bee keeping) so as to reduce drastically unemployment that could mar their future by involving in undesirable behaviours.Item Re-Positioning Adult Education Programmes For Sustainable Livelihood In Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara State, Nigeria(Published by Faculty of Education, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2020) SHOLAGBERU, Abdulsalam Oladimeji; KAYODE, Sadiq Toyin; Dr. TAIWO, Toyin AmbaliEducating adult individual in any society is considered as a vital move towards liberating such individual adult. Thus, adult education programmes need to be readdressed to cater for individual adult needs in terms of economic, welfare and social development. Based on this premise, this paper explored the need to re-positioning adult education programmes for sustainable livelihood status of people in Ilorin Metropolis. Survey research design was adopted for the study and sample of 90 adult learners were randomly selected across three adult literacy centers in llorin metropolis. The study made use of a structured questionnaire to elicit relevance data from the respondents. Data collected were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between adult education programme and reducing poverty level of adult individual. Also, there was a significant relationship between adult education programme, economic benefits and attitudinal changes of individual adults in the society. Based on the findings, i! was recommended, among others, that reliable and available data must be provided for proper planning and implementation of adult education programme. Society must ascribe value and prestige to this system of learning and appreciate it as needed for lifelong Education. Also, relevant and appropriate leaching and learning materials must be provided to adult literacy centres and adult facilitators/instructors must be adequately motivated.
