Item Corruption in the Nigerian Judicial System(Faculty Of Social And Management Sciences, Taraba State University, Jalingo, 2023-04) Jimoh Buhari Edun; ATIKU, Abdullateef Abiodun; Monsurat Isiaka; Ojiezele Oriabure MondayThis study x-rayed the causes and implications of corruption and other related problems in Nigerian the judicial system. In order to answer the research questions, descriptive cum qualitative approach was employed. This instrument, coupled with mail interview guide, proved effective in collecting data from experts in different fields of human endeavour, such as correctional officers, criminologists, legal practitioners, and educationalists. The collected data were transcribed and coded, using Nvivo12 and was analyzed thematically. Findings revealed that the prevalence of corruption precedes the dispensation of unfair judgments; the existence of corruption leads to a situation in which bourgeoisies in the society get favoured in exchange for cash and other favours; corruption within the Nigerian Judicial System has actually led to the proliferation of criminal activities, the perpetrators of which routinely pay their way to evade justice; judicial corruption engenders a blased administration of justice; and the independence of the judiciary is necessary for democracy and the rule of law to thrive. Based on the findings, the study recommended the need to strategize reformations of policies that will suffice to efface, or enfeeble, the corruption bug which appears to have stung the Nigerian Judicial System for decadesItem Effects of Covid-19 Pandemic Disease on the Social Well-Being of the Elderly Person's in Nigeria(Faculty Of Social and Management Sciences, Taraba State University, Jalingo, 2021) Auku Abdullateef Abiodun; Veta Oghenechoja Dennis; Jimoh Buhari Edun; Issah Moshood; Abdullahi Kayode IbrahimThe ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the global economic and as well, deepened inequalities, poverty and joblessness among young and old persons across all nations It is on this basis that this study is outlined to ascertain the circumstances of COVID-19 and economic downturn on the social well-being of older adults in Nigeria and the implications fr social work practice. The study used a qualitative data collected from 16 older adults residing in four out of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria through an in-depth interview guide. The collected data was transcribed and was coded, using Nvivo12 and was analyzed thematically. Result of the study revealed that COVID-19 pandemic has an overwhelming impact on the socioeconomic well-being of older adults in Nigeria. It showed the negligence of government authorities in the care of the elderly. The study discussed the implications of the findings for social work practice. Based on the findings, the study recommended that Nigerian governments, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals in the society should provide adequately for the less privileged and the older adults during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. And more so, policies and programs that will enhance the role of social work practices should be formulated and upheld by the Nigerian governments, through professionalism of social work.Item FEMALE INMATE MENSTRUAL PHENOMENON IN NIGERIA CORRECTIONAL CENTRES(Depatment of social work, University of ilorin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2021) Atiku Abdullateef Abiodun; Jimoh Buhari EdunAbstract A number of the Nigerian correctional centres are in a state of disarray, placing the female inmates in a disastrous health position. Procuring quality health care services to the inmates is far beyond reach due to serious anomalies operating within the system such as corruption, feeble policies, delay in government programs, ‘Oga’ at the top syndrome, nonchalant attitudes of the officials, and weak criminal justice system among host of other factors. This article cross-examined and explained problems such as menstruation, sexual abuse, congestions and incompatible structures, unhygienic environment and infectious diseases, and other social issues facing female inmates in Nigeria correctional centres. To guarantee sustainable and standard health services to the female inmates in particular, there is need for all hands to be on board to reassess the ongoing crisis on the well-being of the inmates and by aiding uncomplicated approach towards making life meaningful when it comes to health matters of these inmates. Thus, social workers play conspicuous and outstanding roles in administrative and practice positions in correctional centres with the law enforcing bureaus to avert this type of social problem in the society and as well work on the rehabilitation process through a safe and secured social justice system. It therefore, recommends that the Nigeria government and the administration of Nigeria correction centres should key into social Policies by various organizations in promoting health and social welfare of the inmates, In addition is the need for the training of correctional officials on best methods of dealing with inmates of the 21st century and engaging social workers in the Psycho-social and therapeutic interventions.Item Phenomenon of Elderly Male Couples in llorin Metropolis(Department of Sociology, Al-qalam University, Kastina State, Nigeria, 2021) Atiku Abdullateef Abiodun; Jimoh Buhari Edun; Musa Adamu DanyawoABSTRACT From time immemorial, marriage between husband and wife had been filled with bundles of experiences ranging from love, enthusiasm, lost and melancholie feelings which every couple manage within their home in other to live a fulfilled life, bo compatible and cohabit peacefully with one another amidst several challenges surrounding them. However, the objectives of this study identified the core anomalies confronting elderly male married couples in Ilorin metropolis, it also. states the causes and its health consequences on elderly male couples in a bid to proffer possible solutions via the significance of social workers. The study used a qualitative data collected from 12 elderly man residing in the three geographical locations of llorin metropolis (that is; florin west, East, and South local government areas) through an in-depth interview gulde. The collected data was transcribed and was coded, using Nvivo 12 and was analyzed thematically. Result of the study revealed that elderly men between the ages of 60 and 69 years encounter series of problems ranging from boredom, lack of sexual intimacy, lack of regular communication, jealousy and anger, While among older adults between the ages of 70 years and above suffers problems such as difference in life style/stages, depression, high blood pressure, dementia and the host of other elderly anomalles bedeviling them due to the difficulties experienced from long lifespan marital stay The study discussed the implications of the findings for social work practice and it also proffer recommendations to relevant agencies, family members, the immediate communities and concem aged couples. And more so, policies and programs that will enhance the role of social work practices ol ould be formulated and upheld by the Nigerian governments, through professionalism of social work.Item Ritualism and Spiritualism" The Modus Operandi of Fraudsters in Cybercrime Activities in Nigeria(Department of Sociology, Al-qalam University, Kastina State, Nigeria, 2021-12) Jimoh Buhari Edun; Atiku A. Abdullateef,; Musa Adamu Danyawo Ph.D'ABSTRACT The Information Communication Technology otherwise called ICT has made human existence more meaningful in the twenty first century and, the entire universe has become a global village with all it needs at our finger tips. The restricting activity on the internet, through the use of various electronic devices between two or more communicators (via calling, chatting, messaging etc.) has enhanced human socio- economic endeavors either positively or negatively. Some internet users in cyberspace are well cultured, they use the web for productive purposes while other users are rebellious in nature, their greed trodden as they most often times use the web for series of obscured and shady deals such as promiscuity acts, black mailing, gambling, fraudster businesses, illicit Illicit drugs and arms dealing, and to mention just a few. Those that explore the internet and pervert for criminal opportunities are cyber criminals. The study investigates the threat of ritualism and spiritualism in committing cyber crime in Nigeria. A subject that has not received sufficient academic attention and its social and economic disadvantages has largely been overlooked in government responses. Relying on available public data, this article examines the phenomenon of cyber crime among youths and the rate at which it has become intensified, using ritualism and spiritualism means to commit this heinous act. It becomes imperative to highlight the implications for society, security and possible way forward. The study adopted secondary data such as relevant journals, articles, online educational sites and print media. Anomie theory of Emile Durkheim and Robert Merton were used as theoretical explanation for the study. The study concluded that society is the womb of crime. Cyber-crime is a worldwide problem and relatively now. The strategies it has taken in Nigeria through the involvement of ritualism and spiritualism is based on belief system and practice among Africans including Nigeria. However, the role of social workers is also discussed. Adequate attention in provision of employment or empowerment to graduate youth youths will go a large way in reducing ceaseless act of cyber crime in Nigeria.
