Health workers are mostly at risk of contracting the disease as they remain the first point of call to the victims. This study examined the attitudes of health workers towards management of HBV infection and the difference in attitudes of health workers based on area of specialization. An ex-post facto research design sampling 412 health workers across different areas of specialization which include doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and laboratory technicians. Majority of the health workers had negative attitudes towards HBV patients. However, doctors (mean score=3.72) and nurses (mean score=3.54) had mild negative attitudes towards HBV patients, while laboratory scientists (mean score=3.02) and laboratory technicians (mean score=3.04) had the poorest attitudes towards HBV patients. There is need to improve the attitudes of the different cadres of health workers in the state, in order to improve the quality of life of HBV patients and reduce stigma which may impact negatively on patients’ mental health.Item Boko Haram Activities and Reproductive Health of Women: Implications for Public Health(Nigerian Assoiation of Health Educators, 2015) Shehu, Raheem Adaramaja; Abdulraheem, Adijat Mojisola; Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem OnaolapoIt is not an understatement to say that in Nigeria, terrorism has been a constant threat to all aspects of health including physical, social and psychological wellbeing of the people. The most prominent of the problems faced by the nation today is the Boko Haram insurgency. Boko Haram is a terrorist group which strongly perceive western education as forbidden. They then began the killings of who ever have received western education. They kidnap mostly, women and girls of childbearing age. The gruesome attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on women cannot be overemphasized. Girls are been abducted and used as suicide bombers while others are brutally raped and impregnated. Some of these women after being rescued result to abortion of the unwanted pregnancies while others see it as their fate and may decide to have the babies. This gave rise to series of reproductive health problems among the internally displaced persons (women) especially those living in the internally displaced camps. Several conditions in their new abode have made them prone to HIV, STIs, abortion, domestic violence, infertility and other reproductive health challenges. Effective reproductive health care is advocated for these womenItem Factors affecting solid waste management among residents in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria(Faculty of Education, Rivers State University, 2023) Ologele, Ibrahim; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Joseph, Abiodun Stephen; Dabiri-Adewumi, Azeezat Oluwatoyin; Fofana, Maimouna ZainabThe study examined factors affecting solid waste management among residents in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of all the residents of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. The research design used for the study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey which involved the use of a multi-stage sampling technique to choose 200 respondents participated in the study through the use of a structured questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument for the study was established using test-retest method. The reliability coefficient of 0.84 was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Frequency counts and the percentage were used to analyse demographic data of the respondents while inferential statistics of chi-square was used to analyse the result of the stated hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The result of the findings revealed that inadequate funding, poverty and inadequate sanitation facilities contributed significantly to the problem of solid waste management in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The study recommends that Government and non-government organization should provide sanitation facilities to residents of Ilorin South Local Government to make it easy for them to manage their solid waste effectively.Item Factors affecting solid waste management among residents in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria.(Publication of Faculty of Education, Rivers State University., 2023) Ologele, Ibrahim; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Joseph, Abiodun Stephen; Dabiri-Adewumi, Azeezat Oluwatoyin; Fofana, Maimouna ZainabThe study examined factors affecting solid waste management among residents in llorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study sought to find out whether people in Ilorin metropolis perceive air pollution to influence cardiovascular, lung and skin diseases. A descriptive research design of survey type was employed for the study. A sample of 400 heads of households was selected across households in the three Local Government Areasa that made up Ilorin Metropolis using multistage sampling technique. A researcher developed questionnaire tagged 'QPIEPOH' which was validated by three jurors and tested for reliability using test re-test method was used for the study. a result of 0.76r clearly indicated the instrument was reliable. Chi-square was used to analyze the data for the study at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings revealed that the people in Ilorin Metropolis perceived exposure to environmental pollution as influencing normal functioning of the heart, [calculated Chi-Square value (355.5) > table value (16.9)], lung [calculated Chi-Square value (301.5) > table value (16.9)], and skin [calculated Chi-Square value (355.5) > table value (16.9)]. It was concluded that people in Ilorin Metropolis have significantly perceived environmental pollutionas a major cause of heart attacks, unexplained cough, tuberculosis and skin infections. It was recommended that the people in Ilorin Metropolis should protect themselves from harmful effects of pollutionItem Perceived Influence of Solar Power Harnessing on the Environment and Production of Local Products among the People of Ilorin South Local Government Area(Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science, University of Benin, Benin, Nigeria, 2016-06) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Shagaya, MuktarItem Perceived Influence of Solar Power Harnessing on the environment and production of local products among the People of Ilorin South Local Government Area(Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, 2016) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Shagaya, MuktarThe study examined perceived influence of solar power harnessing on the environment and production of local products among the people of Ilorin South Local Government Area. It examined the influence of solar power harnessing on air pollution, noise pollution and the production of local products. Descriptive research design was employed for the study. The population of the study comprise of all the people of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. A sample of 380 respondents were selected using multistage sampling techniques of stratified, systematic, cluster and purposive sampling techniques were used for the study. A researcher developed questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. The questionnaire was validated by experts in the related field. The reliability of the questionnaire was ascertained using Spearman Brown Rank Order which yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.76r. Three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Inferential statistics of chi-square was used to lest the data collected for the study. The findings of the study revealed that solar power harnessing will not significantly influence air pollution ( cal . value 427.01 > crit. value 16.92); noise pollution (cal. > value 342.14 > crit. value 16.92); and the production of local products in Ilorin South Local Government Area (cal. value 410.51 > crit. value 16.92). It was concluded that the generation of electricity from solar power will not influence air and noise pollution; and it will influence the production of local products as perceived by the people of Ilorin South Local Government Area. It was therefore recommended that solar power harnessing should be encouraged to reduce the menace of air and noise pollution; and to encourage production of locally made products.Item Waste disposal management as correlate of environmental problems in Ilorin Metropolis(Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-06) Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Akorede, Seun Nurudeen; Jidda, Kafayah Adeola; Ologele, Ibrahim
