    Attitudes of couples in Kwara State towards the use of family planning

    Use of family planning has long been misconstrued. The purpose of this study was to find out the attitude of couples in Kwara State towards use of family planning. The study also aimed at finding out whether variables such as age, religion and educational qualification will affect the respondents' views. Four hundred respondents were selected using simple random sampling and systematic sampling techniques. A Researcher-designed questionnaire tiled 'Attitude towards use of Family Planning Questionnaire (AUFPQ)' was used to collect data for the study. A research question was constructed and three hypotheses were formulated. The validity of the instrument was established through vetting of three medical personnel in Gynecology Department, University of llorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Nigeria. While,the reliability was ascertained using split-half reliability method and reliability coefficient of 0.72 was gotten which confirmed that the instrument is reliable for use. The hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance at 0.05 sig. level.The result showed that couples in Kwara State have negative attitude towards the use of family Planning. It was also found out that there was no significant difference in the attitude of couples in Kwara State towards the use of family planning based on age, religion and educational qualification. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations were made that Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations should embark on more sensitization programmes that would be on continuous basis so as to encourage couples to develop positive attitude towards use of family planning.

    Comparative Analysis of Gender Equality in Enrolment and Completion of Primary School Girls in Ilorin West and Ilorin South

    This study was conducted to investigate gender equality in enrolment and completion of primary school girls. The report in the study constitutes a comprehensive survey on the reason primary school enrolment rate for girls lag behind those of boys. The study also feature the post Millennium Development Goal Agenda, setting out recommendations for the education sector at the international, national and local level with the aim of transforming the experiences of girls at school. This empirical study contains some basic statistics on the level of girl's exclusion from education in llorin West and llorin South. It presents statistical information on gender equality. It also presented the multi-faceted strategies necessary to address not only different dimensions of girls and women lives but understand gendered relationships and structurally entrenched inequalities between women and men, girls and boys. Also it analysed the way schools can perpetrate gender stereotypes and investigated how this can be prevented. A descriptive survey design was employed. A-9 four point Likert scale researchers questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument consists of (9) items administered to 360 respondents. Out of the 360 questionnaires administered, 357 questionnaires were returned. Data collected were analysed using mean ratings while each case study ended with conclusion and a set of policy recommendations, Therefore, it was recommended that post-MDG goals are not sufficient for what need to be done to address girls' and women education needs, setting the target population too low and still, only in terms of access not attendance, completion and equality. Thus, the paper discussed some of the key challenges in achieving real gender equality in education providing examples of initiatives in a range of context, including gender-responsive budgeting in primary education. It was concluded that gender inequality exist among nations as regards girl-child right. It was recommended that the government should ensure that girl-child education is given utmost priority as the education policies should be well regulated to promote gender equality.

    Influence of environmental factors on career choice of secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis: towards enhancing emotional well-being of adolescents.

    This study investigated the influence of environmental factors on career choice of secondary school students in llorin metropolis, Kwara state. The study also examined whether moderating variables such as class level, class type and gender would affect the respondents' views. The population consisted of 800 secondary school students that were randomly selected from llorin Metropolis.The researchers employed descriptive survey method for the study.The instrument used was a self-designed questionnaire titled "Career choice Questionnaire (CCQ).The t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 alpha level were used to test the hypotheses. The result revealed that environmental factors have a positive influence on career choice of secondary school students in llorin Metropolis. Also,there was no significant difference on the influence of environmental factors on career choice of secondary school students in lorin Metropolis on the bases of class level, gender and class type. Secondary school Counsellors should provide career guidance to learners on a continual basis during their secondary school education, so as to make adequate career choices and to enhance their emotional well-being, was recommended.

    Study habits and attitudes of Senior Secondary School Students towards Schooling in Ilorin metropolis

    This study was carried out to find out the views of senior secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis about their study habits and attitudes towards schooling.The multistage sampling technique as well as simple random method were used to select six hundred respondents across the metropolis. A self designed questionnaire tagged "Study Habits and Attitudes of Senior Secondary School Students' Towards Schooling questionnaire (SHASSTSQ)" was used to gather the required information from the respondents. The instrument has three sections containing items that revealed personal information, study habits and attitudes towards schooling. In the means and rank order of respondents' study habit reading section, I read section by section of my note book before going on ranked highest with a mean score of 3.176. Also, in the means and rank order of respondents attitudes towards schooling it was revealed that item 10 which states that I always have quick answer to the question in all subjects ranked highest, with a mean score of 3.178. The results of the study revealed that problem connected with poor attitudes towards schooling is when student did not have access to school facilities like available classroom, well ventilated library, electricity laboratory equipment, well dedicated teachers etc. Conversely when all these are available, the students would develop positive attitudes towards schooling also, study habits can improve if student can set aside a specific time to study, study everyday, create his/her own study space, have a lot of reading to do to prepare for a test or exam etc. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the government, parents should provide the necessary and adequate facilities like textbooks, infrastructural facilities, libraries so as to improve the study habits of students and inculcate in them the positive attitudes towards schooling.

    The attitude of married women towards virginity among young ladies in Ilorin Metropolis

    Virginity and its effects have been a major source of concern within llorin Metropolis, The main objective of the study was to investigate attitude of married women towards virginity among young ladies in llorin metropolis. The research design adopted for the study was a descriptive research survey and it considered variables of age, educational qualification and religion. The researchers employed the simple random sampling technique which was used to select 100 married women in llorin metropolis. The researchers developed a questionnaire which was used to elicit information from the respondents. It consists of two sections; section A deals with their personal data, while section B contains 20 items relating to the subject matter of the study. The findings of the study showed that 87% of the respondents viewed virginity as very important while the remaining 13% viewed virginity as less important. Also, findings that there is a significant difference in the attitude of married women towards virginity among young ladies in llorin metropolis based on age and educational qualification while there is no significant difference in the attitude of married women towards virginity among young ladies in llorin metropolis based on religion. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that much emphasis should be placed on virginity in the society because this will help curb the issue of divorce and enhance marital stability.It was recommended that Government should place more emphasis on sex education. Also, counseling should start from home to school and through all the levels of education from primary school to tertiary institutions.There should be seminars, symposium, on sex, sex education, virginity and all issues related to marriage and workshop on other viral sexual diseases.
