    Arabic Communicative Competence in Digital Age: Opportunities and Challenges for Learners in Nigeria.

    The emergence of the digital age has significantly transformed the landscape of language acquisition, presenting both opportunities and challenges. This paper explores the opportunities and challenges associated with developing Arabic communicative competence in Nigeria within the context of the digital age. Arabic, with its historical and religious significance in Nigeria, faces both unprecedented advantages and substantial barriers in language acquisition due to the proliferation of digital technology. While digital tools such as mobile applications, e-learning platforms, and virtual exchange programs provide enhanced access to resources, the challenges of socio-economic disparities, limited access to technology, and inadequate digital literacy remain significant obstacles. The paper examines the role of digital technology in advancing linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic competencies, particularly in the Nigerian educational landscape. It also highlights the potential benefits of Arabic proficiency, including improved global communication, economic opportunities, and cultural preservation. Additionally, the study discusses the issues facing Arabic learners in Nigeria, such as outdated teaching methodologies, insufficient teacher training, and socio-political factors. Recommendations are provided to overcome these challenges, including the adoption of communicative language teaching methodologies, enhanced teacher professional development, curriculum reform, and the integration of technology into learning practices. Ultimately, this paper argues that leveraging digital resources can significantly enhance Arabic communicative competence, fostering global integration and contributing to Nigeria's socio-economic development in the digital age.
