    Health Workers Perceived Impacts of Hospice Care on Graceful Death of Terminally ill-patients in Federal Medical Centre Azare, Bauchi State

    This study examine perceived impacts of hospice care on graceful death of terminally all patients in Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State. Hospice care is the care given to the terminally ill patients to reduce their pains, sufferings and complications before graceful death. The objectives of the study were to investigate whether comprehensive hospice care, palliative care and supportive care rendered by health workers and relatives patients have impact on their graceful death. The study adopted descriptive research design of the survey type for the study. The population of the study comprises of all health workers in Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State. The instrument used for the study was researchers structured questionnaire validated by experts from Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, and Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, both in University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The reliability of the instrument was determined through test re-test method with reliability coefficient of 0.78 obtained. In all, three hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study. The data generated were analyzed by parametric statistical method of Chi-square (x²) at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The finding from the study revealed that; - health workers perception of quality of hospice care have significant impact on graceful death of terminally ill patients, because the calculated (x²) value of 22.09 > than critical value of 12.59; - health workers perception of palliative care have significant impact on graceful death of terminally ill patients, because calculated (x²) value of 28.63 > critical value of 12.59; and health workers perception of supportive care render by the relatives of patients have significant impact on graceful death of terminally ill patients, because calculated (x²) value of 54.74> critical value of 12.59 and Based on the findings above, health workers perception of quality of hospice care, palliative care and supportive care by the patients' relatives have much impacts on graceful death of terminally ill patients. The study recommends that health workers should try as much as possible to improve the quality of services rendered to terminally ill patients, also, health workers should health educate the relative of terminally ill patients on the need to intensify the supportive services rendered to their patients.

    Perceived influence of food hygiene in the prevention of food-borne diseases among secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria.

    This study investigated the perceived influence of food hygiene in the prevention of food-borne disease among secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State, Nigeria. Food-borne disease is a pervasive problem caused by consumption of contaminated foods and drinks. The objectives of the study included determining whether good personal hygiene and safe food handling affect prevention of food-borne diseases. The study adopted descriptive research design of survey type for the study. The population of the study comprises all secondary school students in the Ilorin Metropolis. The researchers a structured questionnaire adequately validated by experts from department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, and Department of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The reliability of the instrument was determined through test re-test method in which reliability coefficient of 0.79 was obtained. In all, two hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study. The data generated were analysed by parametric statistical method of chi-square (x²) at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The finding from the study revealed that good personal hygiene had much influence in the prevention of food-borne diseases among secondary school students in the Ilorin Metropolis. In addition, safe food handling had greater influence in the prevention of food-borne diseases among secondary school students in the same metropolis. Based on the findings above, secondary school students perceived good personal hygiene and safe food handling as having much influence in the prevention of food-borne diseases. The study recommends that secondary school students ought to be advised to strictly adhere to good hygiene practices to prevent food-borne diseases. Secondary school students are also encouraged to be conscious of the food they buy and prepare at home to prevent food-borne diseases.

    Status of School Health Services of Secondary Schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

    The purpose of the study was to determine the status of secondary schools health services in the study area based on; pre-entry medical examination, emergency care services, monitoring communicable diseases and control programme in secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State are available or not. decriptive research of the cross-sectionally type was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the twenty-two (22) secondary schools in the study area. a researcher-developed observational checklist validated by three experts from the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin was used for data collection by the researchers. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analysed the result of the data collected. The finding of the study revealed that pre-entry medical examination, monitoring communicable diseases and control programme and emergency care services were high and implemented for secondary school students in the study area. The researchers recommend among others that the State Ministry of Education should formulate a law which will make it compulsory for all school principals to include pre-entry medical examination as part of the requirement for admitting students into the secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
