Combating Socio-Economic Vices in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions: A Study of Al-Amidul Mubajjal Play by Z. I. Oseni
(The Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria, 2025) Ambali, A. B.; Ibraheem, L.O.
ABSTRACT Nigerian tertiary institutions are characterized with certain vices that are negatively affecting their mandate of quality teaching, research and ethical based mentorship. Vices, such as bribery for admission, sex for marks and other forms of indiscipline had transformed to a cankerworm that is eating deeply into the fabrics of the institutions and by extension affecting the Nigerian society at large. Z. I. Oseni in his drama entitled Al-Amidul Mubajjal joined the league of prominent Arabic play writers who contribute positively to the growth, development and rebranding of Nigerian society by condemning corruption and indiscipline in Nigerian educational sector, whose work is yet to receive adequate attention of researchers. This study therefore, aimed to investigate some contemporary social-economic vices in Oseni’s play called Al- cAmīidul Mubajjal to measure its contribution to a value based education in Nigerian Universities. The researcher adopted descriptive approach to complete this study. It was discovered that the play condemned extortion of tertiary institutions’ candidates and their parents to gain admission, established that the consequence of sex for marks is catastrophic and that oppressing others in an academic setting is a grievous crime. The paper recommended that the play is staged for more impact. Keywords: Combating, Socio-economic, Play, Vices, Tertiary, Institutions, Nigeria

The Contributions of Ilorin Scholars to poetry in Arabic in Nigeria
(Centrepoint Journal (Humanity Edition), University of Ilorin Library and Publications Committee, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2014) Ibraheem, L.O.
Poetry is an important aspect of the literary tradition of any culture. In Arabic language, it is considered to be a repository of the Arab history, values and norms. This explains why the Arabs celebrated the emergence of a new poet in a family, tribe, or clan. In Nigeria, despite the belief that Arabic poetry is a difficult art, Arabic poetry has reached a greater height in both quality and quantity, especially during period which is considered as the period of “efflorescence” of Arabic literature in Nigeria. The aim of this study is to evaluate the contributions of Ilorin scholars to the growth of Arabic poetry. To achieve this, the study is divided into four sections. The first section gives a brief history of Ilorin and the growth and development of Arabic Language in the ancient city. The second section deals with the efforts of Ilorin scholars in the study and preservation of Arabic Poetry. The third section discusses how Arabic poets emerged in Ilorin; while the fourth section concentrates on Ilorin verse authors in Arabic. The conclusion is a summary of the study and its findings.

Internal Mechanisms as tools for conflict resolution: A case study on Share-Tsaragi, Nigeria
(Heliyon, 2021-01-20) Olademo, Oyeronke; Omotoye, Rotimi William; Ikibe, S. O.; Ibraheem, L.O.; Tijani, Y.O.; Abubakre, S.O.; Aboyeji, A. Justus; Adebisi, A.A.; Fahm, A.O.; Adimula, R.A.
Share and Tsaragi are twin communities in Kwara State, Nigeria, living harmoniously for centuries before a crisis on border issues erupted between them. This study argues that internal mechanisms that originate from the people's philosophy and culture are potent tools to sustain peaceful co-existence between them. The research designs are quantitative and qualitative and data were gathered from participant observations, questionnaires, and interviews. Findings show that government interventions have not been perfectly enforced, hence recurring conflicts. The study concludes that crises are imminent where population growth is without corresponding economic empowerment and socio-cultural integration among the people. Previous research efforts confirm that African conflicts often occur due to the combination of poverty and weak States and institutions. However, data from this research confirm that collaborations and consensus are potent tools to entrench peace in Share and Tsaragi communities.
